Music for Running

Does anyone have any recommendations for music to run to? I'm approaching Week 7 and thinking ahead here to when I have to cast off into independent running - I hope. Most of my music is too slow or gloomy!

I have a playlist on Spotify and keep adding any songs that feel like it would be fun to run to :D Not sure if only Spotify members can access it but here it is:

Ha! Mahler! I like that. Will check out SoD, which also sounds appropriate as the longer runs approach.

How can you listen to steel panther and run without choking on the laughter ?

I'd say stick to the playlist in Couch to 5K; it's definitely worth it because you'll be introduced to Julie soon! It's a rite of passage for the program!

Crikey, who's Julie?! I had no idea.

'You and Julie' is one of the most memorable tracks of the program. You'll probably recognize it instantly.

Oh yeah, you just have to get Julie into your ear'ole

I love running to music, and fortunately got loads of free tracks with the Sami Murphy Bridge to 10 k podcasts

I have a right old mixed bag of tunes to run to. It depends on what mood you're in as to what you want to listen to, or what kind of run you're doing.

If you are running slow and long you choose different tracks to if you are running fast and want something more epic or anthemic, inspiring ! You'll build up your collection as you go. It's fun!

For now it's you and Julie! Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Thank you Miss W. Running 'fast' hasn't come into the equation yet.

Hi Dave, the right era can help I think. I tried Aladdin Sane one day when the podcast malfunctioned and felt I got in touch with some of my youthful energy!

I'm currently wondering about this myself. At the moment I'm still listening to week 9... how much more of Julie can I take?

I do have some tracks I listen to when I,m at the gym ... the choice will confirm that as my family already suspect I AM SOMEWHAT DERANGED. A lot of them seem to be film themes no idea why????

Rocky Theme and Eye of the Tiger.... Dont tell anyone... who's to know when youv'e got your headphones on.

Bit of Beyonce.

Bryan Adams.

The theme from "A Bridge Too Far"... ????

Theme from Braveheart and a few tracks from "Master and Commander".

if only people knew when they saw this fat old fool on the exercise bike!!!

Regards John.

PS people in other posts have suggested Radio 4 podcasts. I am a big fan of Radio 4 ... but I do have a habit of shouting at it quite a lot ... probably not the best thing to be doing when jogging in the park in a dayglo running top!!

Thanks for the ideas, Kf. I would love to listen to podcasts but I think I need all the help I can get currently and the music makes a big difference to me.

Go for some soft rock . bands like Def leppard . Whitesnake and Journey Bon jovi . I hear you scoff , but all bands do good tunes to run to , nice and mellow .check them out on spotify or ytube & ill give you just 2 examples =Hysteria by Def leppard or after the fall by Journey , they did do tracks better than dont stop belieiving. Even if your not a rocker any of these will go brilliant with your run .... try it you shall see

Try to work out your running pace. After graduation, I tried the Speed and Stamina runs, and in those Laura tells you how many beats per minute you are running at at different points - and I could get a sense of what was comfortable for me. I then just googled 'music at X beats per minute', and got lots of lists. I then used these to select some tracks from my existing playlists. Also, you can get a gizmo on your computer that you can run all your own music through and it will list all the BPM. You can then look for ones that are close to what is your preferred running speed, and make a quick playlist from your own music that way.
