So tomorrow I am going to a local running shop for a gait analysis to see if I can do anything to help my poorly knees. I'm a bit apprehensive though. Has anyone done these before? What should I expect? The shop said they provide the trainers, is that usual?

Gait analysis
Yeah, most of us. You only go on the machine for seconds so don't worry. How they know all from that short spell I have no idea. Whether it's just blarney who knows.
I assume you are going to a dedicated running shop. If so, you'll be ok. You can always return the shoes if they don't suit. Take your time and try all the options
Have fun!
Photos are the law, by the way!
Lois if you're going to sweatshop in Ipswich they are great, it's very interesting and yes if you buy from there you can take the trainers back even used if you don't get on with them. That's where I went early 2016 and I don't regret it.
Yep, that's where I'm going Paul46-ipswich , glad to hear you had a good experience there. I'll let you know how I get on
I'd just check their current returns policy - Sweatshop did indeed used to be fabulous (I was told I could return shoes covered in mud for an exchange within 28 days and they were as good as their word) However, they've were bought by Sports Direct and the returns policy is not the same now.
I had a gait analysis done at Run4it. I took my current trainers but the recording was in bare feet. I was only on the treadmill for a short while. It was funny really because the young assistant had set the speed quite fast it felt like a quick sprint! But just ask to set a speed you are happy with. I recommend capris or shorts because it is easier to see the calf and ankle muscles/tendons when you watch the video. After the analysis I tried on different shoes and tried them out on the treadmill. I am sure they will look after you, don't worry about it.
I went to Run4it and they had me running barefoot, then in a variety of trainers that they thought might be good. I'd never been on a treadmill before but I didn't fall over and no one laughed, even though I was quite 'Ooh-er' about the idea.
Oh god, I hadn't even thought about the treadmill aspect of it!! I've never been on one...argh!
