Gait analysis redone!

Had my gait analysis done a month ago at a local running shop. They just looked at my feet in various trainers not via a video analysis. Was told I needed a neutral shoe, which I was surprised at as I feel I roll in. Since wearing them I have struggled with lots of ankle pain and swelling. I haven’t been back out in a week as they are still too sore. Anyway, I was then recommended by my gym instructor to go to somewhere else as she felt I needed support. She is a triathlete and total machine! So went to a different shop and did the treadmill video analysis and it’s so obvious I totally roll in! They said I needed a support shoe. So I then bought another pair of shoes! Hoping they are better and don’t cause me the pain I am currently experiencing. I have emailed the original shop as I am not really very happy to have spent £120 on shoes which are unsuitable! Sorry for moaning but I am wanting to get back out and can’t!

Sorry about your £120 shoes making you feel sore, if you have a receipt you can take the shoes back and get your money refunded.

Nitemare! Hope you manage to get your money back - out of order imo if you don’t! I had gait analysis done last Sun and found the trainers I bought are much better, hopefully yours will be too! Keeping 🤞🏻 it won’t be long before you can try bless 🤗 x

I hope your new shoes are better for you.

It bears out my contention that a full video analysis is nearly always going to be superior to a visual check.

Without wanting to condemn a particular shop, when it may just be down to one member of staff, are you willing to tell us which shops were involved? It would also be useful to know how the first shop responds.

The first shop I went to was Let’s Run. The second shop where they did the video gait analysis was Up and Running in Darlington. I was shocked to see how much I rolled in when the video was slowed down. I am a little cross as I genuinely thought I rolled in but obviously went with the advice from the first shop. I will keep you posted as to how they respond. Feel a bit cheeky contacting them but at the end of the day I trusted them to fit me with a suitable pair. I am new to running but didn’t just pick up any pair of trainers. I went to get them fitted correctly!

If you find that the new shoes eradicate the pain you were previously experiencing, then I don't think that first shop has a leg to stand on, so to speak. They supplied you with an inappropriate shoe and their reputation really does stand on them getting that right first time. You could have potentially suffered serious damage running in the wrong shoes. It is not cheeky going back to them. They have a responsibility to get these things right.

Best of luck. Keep us posted.

I can definitely recommend Up and Running. It was Mike who served me but they all seemed really helpful.

As the running shoes are “not fit for purpose” and you were “mis-sold” you are entitled to a full refund.

I would contact the shop also as you paid a lot of money for trainers that are no use to you. Let us know if they get back to you. Good luck

I have sent them an email so will see if they respond.

If they don't reply then go there. On a Saturday afternoon, when they are busiest and talk loudly about how wrong their gait analysis was. : )

They have responded and said I should have given them the chance to provide a different shoe. They are still questioning if I need a support shoe as my over pronation may be due to bio-mechanics. However, on this occasion they will refund me. Feel nervous going back now!

Just saw this, working back from your latest post. I do hope you went back and stood your ground! Surely biomechanics is the study of structure and function of a living organism. That is what you asked them to look at - not some abstruse “just your fault” thing that they shouldn’t/might not have noticed. ☹️ Really poor service & not a good attitude. Say thank you politely and take the money.

I did go back and was served by the owner of the store who immediately said I needed a support shoe when she saw me run in them. She apologised and was very helpful. Still struggling with pain around the ankle though. Hoping it settles soon!

Well done. Do hope that ankle gets better soon. If not, see your gp or, if you can, a physio familiar with running. They can suggest strengthening exercises which will probably help a lot.
