Hi Christina, I hope you see this post - THANK YOU! The most inspirational message that I personally could ever have had. It's above my desk and on my fridge: "today I shall be one run stronger". Some of my friends and family mock me and say that you're supposed to have a mid-life crisis, not an old-age crisis like mine: another (much, much, much younger - I could be her Dad!) lady marathon runner friend says I should get MapMyRun and get serious! Let me tell you all that I might well take a long time to get there but in the end I definitely 100% will & that fridge notice stays there until I do. It's very hard work for me, I'm only about to start week 3 after a 3-week preparation programme to even be capable of starting the C25K programme and already after just 2 weeks moving forward to the next week's challenge literally gives me nightmares, but I have to tell anyone who reads this that it's worth every gasp, worth every tiny exhausted step. I'm hooked ..... and this forum is wonderful.
With thanks to Christina T.: Hi Christina, I... - Couch to 5K
With thanks to Christina T.
it is...and ..we are all hooked🙂
Go you...we all..at whatever age,( me..66..) totally rock! X
Gotcha! Started at 71, but only after I'd first lost a stone or three! Won't be happy until I've done a 5K, but that's still a pipe-dream. Partly down to this programme and its focus I feel better today than I did in my 40's. I love your posts and continuous support - keep that going because I'll need it - very nearly gave up before the end of W2R3 and think Laura is very sneaky about how she does that voiceover! Please carry on helping and supporting, I NEED it.
You will get there. Keep reading and posting on this forum - it's the best!
Way to go man! Good on you - others at 71 might be thinking of what nursing home, and you're dreaming of park runs! Brilliant - you can & you will!
It's good for the mind too! New mind stuff every day, grandchildren and exercise are my keys. BUT, this running stuff is very hard for me - late teens/early twenties I used to row at fairly high level and even then used to try to avoid training runs because I HATED it - and I really do need your help now, you guys, or I won't make it. Encourage me, bully me if you think I'm being a bit of a wimp ... I might get shirty at being shouted at but, being honest, you'll probably be right. Have decided I love this stuff, even though almost half of my family think I've started dementia! THANKS!!!!! (Commercial, absolutely no vested interest, but if it rocks your boat ... try "Storm in a Teacup" by Helen Czerski. The physics of everyday life in a way that almost everyone would understand .... ALMOST as good as running)
Well done - your persistence is paying off!
You can do this! Just keep plugging away at those runs and you will do that 5k one day. We're all cheering you on!
Well done you with that determination you will definately complete this programme & love Laura to bits by the end😂! Age is just a number!! I'm 59 & never been sporty but always fancied running!! Not sure why but I committed to c25k & some nights I could see easy have given up but with the help of this fantastic forum I graduated & very slowly🏃🐢🏃have ran 3 x5k but have ran them! Even been out in these cold frosty days!! So looking forward to spring!! Keep on running & most of all enjoy & keep posting 😊
Just remind those who've mocked you that running gear costs less than a fast cars.
Well done david-a great attitude like that will get you far😆
Well done you for getting going. Seems like you are made of strong stuff. Keep going one run at a time and don't worry about the next one. 🌻🌻
Go you......well done. Age is immaterial it is attitude and perseverance that matter. Looking forward to hearing more about your running journey.
Really well done for getting started! My family were the same as yours when I started C25K- I was the family joke-fast forward 3yrs and my husband has joined the gym and uses the treadmill to run - my harshest critic- my daughter- runs herself and we did race for life together earlier this year- now she has started a little running group with her friends-we never know where our efforts will lead us- or our family!!! Happy running.
This forum is wonderful, and it's so easy to get hooked. Just take each week as it comes, and try not to have nightmares about it. The structure of the programme/podcasts is there to support you.
Happy running.
Good luck with the programme. I admire your determination to succeed and am sure you will get there.
Persevere with the programme, it really does work even if you feel like it is trying to kill you in the process The benefits mentally and physically are well worth the effort & before too long you will be addicted! Happy running
