I do a bit of long distance walking and my walking buddy has started running and got as fit as a flee! So I decided to see what it was all about, I am on day 2 of week one. So far so good!
Hi I am Richard going to be 59 next month. - Couch to 5K
Hi I am Richard going to be 59 next month.
Keep at it Richard - believe me, it's worth it
Well done age is not a barrier with this programme
Hi.. welcome!
This is great thing you have started.. trick is...steady and slow... you will hear that on here, many times. It is the way... enjoy the journey, take advice from the folk on here and get to that podium, injury free and happy!
The programme, carefully structured will take you on, step by step..it is all about stamina, and not distance or speed... and, as a mere youngster, you will be just fine ( I am 66) !
Hi Richard - I started C25k in June this year, having never run or indeed done anything remotely sporty. I am now running 5k in 34 minutes and loving it (mostly!) lost loads of weight and feel much better for it. Oh and I am 61 so you are a youngster!! Go for it.
Thanks for the encouragementπ
Well done you and I'm 60 next year & never ran & have completed c25k so you can do itπππage just a numberπ. You will love it keep us posted!
Thanks I am looking forward to getting there, I take my daughter walking and hopefully in a few months go running with her!
Well my first 5k was done with my son and it made it so special he was terrific with his old mum & really got me to the 5k markπhe even went at my pace poor soulππenjoy & what an incentive to run with your daughterπ
Well done, it becomes a personal challenge, I love it and I'm definitely a couch potato (and 62)πββοΈπββοΈπ
You will do it! I graduated in Sept and am aiming for my first 10k race as a 60th birthday treat in MarchππΌππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈ
Hi Richard, I'm not far behind you in terms of age and graduated at end of October, running just shy of 4k in 30 minutes from a starting point of zero (not sure if getting off the sofa to get a glass of wine counts as exercise!) so if I can do it so can you! I promise you you'll get hooked. I've tried over the years to start up running but always failed miserably but C25K worked for me - it is an awesome programme and I love my running now. Keep us posted as to how you get on - just remember it's about running for 30 mins rather than for 5k.
Well done for starting, you will reap the benefits of your effort's! I graduated last year at 60, ran a 10k this year, my wife graduated this year at 61...π
You are just a babe. I am 72 and although I started couch to 5k I haven't finished it yet but go to the gym as well to keep me as fit as I can be. Wish I had started sooner but better late than never,
Best of luck, it should be s breeze.
Well done you! if you can walk long distances you are in a great place to start jogging. I say jogging as that is all you do to begin with. nice and slowly. Keep on with your walking as it's fab.
I am 59 tomorrow and feel fitter than ever π
Thanks, that is just what I want to hear, my walking chum deserted me for the 100 mile walk to run the Edinburgh marathon, she finds both running and walking go well. We use garmin step counters and she challenged me to a weeks steps. We are both about 67k and I am of to do R3W1, so will accumulate a few mote steps!
Well done for starting C25K. Should be a "walk in the park" for youngsters like you. I'm 60 started C25K think back in April. Now regularly doing 6K. As others have said best thing ever done. wish I'd started earlier.
Before becoming "semi-retired" in January at 60 I used to cycle 2 or s days per week to work and thought I wasn't that unfit. But was 3 stone above BMI (got down to about 2 stone by age 60). Also had health warning with high blood pressure and possibly on road to being diabetic.
Now feel great only about 2lbs above normal BMI and great sense of achievement and health and well being. I may not do more than running 2 or 3 times 5k or 6K per week but am happy. I do like to set myself some challenges in changing routes and doing more inclines. The main thing is to be happy and take it steady and build up your stamina.
That sounds brilliant, pretty much what I want to get there. I live in a very hilly area and bought an electric bike π² to help my knees and it is fantastic. I hoop to be able to combine walking, running and cycling.
Good job. Like you, I've been walking with a friend every morning for more than a year, 3-4 miles every day. 5 weeks ago I decided to kick it up and started the program. Terrified, because I couldn't jog for 30 seconds even after all the walking. But I was so encouraged by all the others on this blog, because most seemed to be more my age group, which was so encouraging. This morning, I completed W5R3, 20 minutes of jogging with no break and it was great! Slow and steady is definitely the mantra to remember. I am 62, and feel fantastic! Keep it up you will be able to do it!
Well done and I hope you enjoy the programme and make the progress you want.
Well done for getting started! You won't regret it!
Well done keep going i am 60 and on week 7 run 2, its hard, i do go walking when i do geocaching
Good for you Richard!. Glad you are enjoying it - good luck.
