Am I going fast enough??

I'm on week 3, and I've taken Laura's advice literally, my 'runs' are a REALLY slow jog. So far, I've been doing about 4.5k (sometimes slightly more), over the podcast, but this week it was nearer to 3.5k, Am I going too slowly?!

Blimey. 4.5k and you are only in week3? If that's your slow jog, I'd like to see what your normal/fast runs are like :-) I was only covering about 2.5k/3k during week 3, so you crack on if you like :-)

Apologies!! I'm not running 4.5k at all, that's door to door, not sure what I was thinking. It probably is more like 2.5 to 3k. Good to know I'm on the right track though.

Sounds like you are doing a good pace but I just concentrated on running to Laura's instructions and not worrying at all about distance. That can come later when you graduate.

If it's a pace you can manage then keep going and don't worry about getting any faster. You "should" be able to talk while you're running, but to be fair this probably takes a while to master because most of us have major breathing issues when we start out.

Plenty of time to set yourself targets for pace and distance after you graduate (but don't overdo it or you'll end up injured).

While you're doing the program, really focus on finishing the runs and not on the pace. You may even find (I did) that your pace goes down as you increase time. It's about building stamina, not pace at this point. Good luck!

Thanks very much everyone -really encouraging. My runs are definitely slower the further into the program I get, but is good to know I'm on the right track. :)

I would concentrate on how long you run for rather than how far you go or how fast you are. There is plenty of time to build on speed and distance later.

It sound like you are having a great start, and keep it up.

On day 2 of week three and finding the same thing so it's reassuring to see the advice above! I am using a treadmill and find I vary between 4kph to 6.5-7kph, I was worried this was too snail like but I knish my runs, out I breath and sweaty!

Also on day 2 of W3 - and also seeing a slowing of pace. This morning I only covered1.7k from the start of the first 90 second run to the end of the last 3 minute one. But I did it, which seemed pretty much impossible three weeks ago!

Not what you're looking for?
