Wk5, how am I going to do it?

I have never run in my life and can’t actually believe I’ve got this far. I was the one always last at sports day and chosen last for teams. So, I feel extremely pleased to have got this far but find each and every run hard, and they are def not getting any easier. How on earth am I going to complete this week??!!!

You can do it Juliet. Don’t let that voice say otherwise. You are not competing with anyone else. This is between you and your legs. Just take it slow and comfortable, stop and walk if you need to, but make sure you do it. Take your rest day and then do it again for the next run. Its when it becomes habit that it takes hold in us. Soon you may find you look forward to it. 🙂You’ve done yourself a huge favour by embarking on this journey to begin with!

Julie. You will just believe in yourself. I reached W5 and thought I would not do it, but I did you will too and enjoy it.

I’m doing week 5 Run 3 tomorrow and a bit worried. We have gone from 2 x 8 minute runs with a 5 min walk in between to running 20 mins straight - seems a huge jump!

I did this run today! I too was a bit apprehensive but I needn’t have been! I’m sure you’ll find it ok too! 😀

I did wk5r3 today. I was worried about it for over 3 weeks. Just set yourself small goals as you run, such as lamp posts or trees and then keep moving them as you get near. Your legs will take you believe it, it's the mind you need to overcome. Say you will do 8 mins then 12 mins then 15 and after that you will know you can finish it. Good luck stay positive. Let me know how you get on.

You can do it! Just take it slowly, remember you don’t need to worry about how far you run. Good luck x

I have been doing the runs on a treadmill so will try decreasing the speed and see if that helps

One foot in front of the other and knowing that most of us Graduates had a few "practice" runs as well as the "success" ones :)

Relax, take it slow then slower still and just enjoy seeing what happens :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future :)

Ha! I used to be that person too! Slowly does it, nice and easy. You can do it.....cos I did! We all did! And a lot of us thought that we couldn't. You'll be so chuffed when you do. It won't be a walk in the park, but it's not impossible. You can do it!! :)

In W4 each workout consisted of 16 minutes of running and 15.5 minutes of walking.

W5R1 is 15 running, 16 walking.

W5R2 is 16 running, 15 walking.

W5R3 is shorter than both of those at 20 running, 10 walking.

Surely, when you look at that progression, it is not as daunting as you are anticipating.

If you search for W5 posts you will find desperate posts like yours and an equal number of exultant posts from those who felt just like you and then succeeded.

Believe in the plan and more importantly, in yourself.

It doesn't get any easier because each week you get fitter but each week you run longer. You have already made amazing progress. Week 5 will be fine. It looks daunting but thousands of us have done it successfully. No reason why you won't be the same.

Believe in the programme and in yourself.

I felt the same at Wk5 and convinced myself (and anyone who would listen) that I couldn’t run for 20 mins. I was dreading that run and put it off for a couple of days but I needn’t have worried. You just need to have trust in the program and tell yourself you are ready. I completed it on my first attempt and was absolutely elated when I finished. The feeling at the end is incredible. My advice is to take it nice and slow and try not to overthink it. I have just finished Wk7 this evening and am starting to enjoy the runs now.

YOU CAN DO IT 😊

I completed this a couple of days ago and felt exactly the same as you, I haven't done any running or sports for years. But I completed the run: although I was overtaken by someone else in the park twice whilst I was running!

Now gearing up for W6R1 tonight and looking forward to it. I never thought I would think that, especially right at the beginning when I was struggling to run without stopping for even a minute.

And I try all the the mind tricks mentioned on the posts: try to make it to the next lampost/tree/football goal/park entrance and look for the next milestone. And I find playing longer songs on my phone helps for some reason, so early Beatles tracks are out :)

But keep on going, you can do it!

I've just done that one but it was fine apart from my battery on my player running out. Fortunately it was the last running one so I just kept going for a while!
