Hi guys, I'm on w6r1 but I have signed up to run 5k in a week's time for Movember. Am I mad? What should be my strategy? I completed the dreaded 20 mins run today and felt fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Sandro
Am I mad? : Hi guys, I'm on w6r1 but I have... - Couch to 5K
Am I mad?
I reckon you'll be fine
I would do this week's 3 interval runs then do your Mo run as your first solid run for week 7.
See how you feel after your 25 minutes.
You could walk the rest to the end, run/walk the rest to the end or turn your pace down a notch and run in to the end
Don't worry about your finish time as such, just go and enjoy the event
Thanks for your reply, just feeling a little nervous as ideally I wouldn't be dong my mo run until the end of the 5k programme. Although felt fine this morning with my run so can take confidence from that.
It sounds scary reaching to the 5k before graduation- and often for a number of weeks after!- BUT, with the mindset that you just want to complete and not over- compete then you'll be ok
Do you have any idea what distance you cover currently? Doesn't matter as such, it'll just give you an idea of how long it may seem!
Take a steady pace but it's not great thing to do. it's good to keep a challenge going
Take it steady and beware of the organised warm up routine. We C25Kers are used to a brisk walk as a warm up but discovered they did a mini aerobics session as a warm up yesterday. It was very nearly the undoing of my hubby- we needed to warm up for the warm up!!
I was in a very similar position when I did my first 5k. I signed up for one of the Decathlon organised events to motivate me. I was on week 6 when it arrived. I wasn't concerned as I 'believed' I had been running 4km. Little did I know how inaccurate my iPod was! Anyway, I did it and basically ran it all. Just took my time, walked the steep inclines and finished in a respectable time. The one thing I found running in a group, when not entirely prepared for the distance, is that the temptation to walk was much stronger, as so many others were doing it.
Your post made me chuckle! Did you listen to Laura going round? I'll think I'd miss her if I didn't have her encourage me! What time did you do it in?
Week 9 is 30 minutes. I had a playlist with the podcast plus a couple of favourite tracks for the final minutes. A big tune at the end really helped!
I did it! I managed to run my 5k MoRun in 33 minutes without stopping - I'm so chuffed with myself! Thanks for the advice guys.
