Disaster

After starting off so well, so confident I had a bit of a disaster on Monday on W3R1. I suspect I have torn a muscle in my right calf, the pain was excruciating and still is. It felt like a really, really bad cramp.

I am absolutely gutted, however I'm not giving up, I may have to rest up for a while but I'm not giving in.

If you think it is very bad please go to your Dr!

Otherwise there are lots of stretches online and obviously rest and ice etc.

I hope it heals soon 😊

Sorry to hear that! Plenty of RICE and you should be fit again. However, don't go at it like a bull in a China shop! I'm not trying to tell you how to suck eggs, but a lot go off too fast. Warm up properly, stretch after, go slow & Steady, just above walking speed, no more! Body has to adapt to running, give it time. I have tight calves so bought a pair of calf sleeves which feel good and supporting, and are supposed to help with shin splints. OK they may look a bit odd to some, but I don't worry what people think, too old to let that bother me..😁 Take it easy..😊

never give up but do go and see a sports osteopath or physio to get you sorted out before you next run... and take care

Oh dear! These things happen. I injured my calf recently and it took about a month to get right, with no running. Funnily enough it was fine to walk on

You can still work your upper body though 😊

So sorry to hear this☹️. If it is a tear then you need to make really sure it is fully healed before attempting to run on it again. Depending on the severity, it may take some time to heal (sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I had a nasty tear last year). A good sports physiotherapist would be able to advise you on rehab and can also offer massage to encourage the new muscle fibres to lay down well. Definately RICE though. The good news is that although I was out for 11/12 weeks (hopefully your tear is not as bad?), since I returned to running I have had no further problems with it and am now running up to 10 miles on a long run. Patience is so important...but also quite hard! Hope it settles soon for you. Good luck.
