At the beginning....a complete running newbie.

I'm just starting the C25k programme this evening....I'm feeling so nervous and scared!

I'm going along to a local ladies running group (it's especially for people starting the programme) for my very first run (ever). I have been overweight for all my adult life and now at 40 I have decided that enough is enough. I need to get fit, lose weight and start living my life!! Still scared though....

Welcome Shelley. Most of us were nervous and scared before we started so that's pretty normal here! But you are making a big change in your life and one that will give you so many benefits you won't believe.

I think it's very brave of you starting in a running club so a big well done to you. I'm sure they'll look after you very well and you'll pick up lots of great tips which you can pass on here!

It would be great to hear how you get on so please post often to tell us about your journey. I hope you'll love running as much as many of us do here and at 40 (compared to many of us 😊) you're a baby 😏

Of course it's scary but everyone else will feel the same. Why not buddy up with the one that looks most scared, and then help each other along.

Good luck - you won't regret this!

Scared! It's only walking for a few minutes followed by a 30 second run. Nothing at all to bother about. It's FUN! It makes you giggle. If you are going with a bunch of ladies then it's bound to be a blast

I was an unfit, short, fat, 56 year old when I started but I kicked my own ass and got into C25k thanks to a lady at my WW class. It can be done. Just stick at it at all costs. You just run the run bits very, very slowly. It builds over the weeks so it's not as if you have to do it all at once

Put a smile on your face, put one foot in front of the other and go! Let us know how it goes

30 seconds? I swear it starts with 60 seconds....

Running groups can be great... but if you do find that this particular one turns out a bit fast for you, don't be demoralised just do it by yourself and remember, it's about a different movement rather than a different speed at this stage for many of us.

I'm 43, never run since school about 18 stone, and if I can do it.... just take it steady, and you'll surprise yourself!

60 seconds then! It's just a a minute of running. You have to last out for a minute and then you get to walk again. It's do-able isn't it

Well done for starting shelly! :) I reckon that's the hardest part. I have only recently started the programme too and I've just completed week 1. I'm guessing you will hopefully find the motivation to keep it up as you're joining a local ladies running group and they should help with that. Keep it going and good luck with the programme.

PS. I'm now following you, so you must post updates on how you're getting on! ;)
