Hi to all week 1 people. I've just completed my 2nd run and went OK. But (and for me this is huge) can I listen to one of my downloaded podcasts whilst running or do I have to listen to the NHS music? I download loads of fabulous podcasts from around the world and stuff off of Radio 4 (I'm 59 so obviously radio 4) and listen to books. This would help enormously whilst getting to grips with this programme. Any tips? Thanks and delighted to have found this forum! Jane

What a beautiful patchwork, Jane!

Well done on the second run :) I found those the hardest.

I think there are many different systems to listen to your own music, I think the NHS phone app does this, and my daughter listens to a Jo Whiley C25k that has Jo's voice, with your own music. Yes, the music is quite cheesy, but I have listened to it all the way through, I think at times listening to music I love would put me off the songs!

Well done and keep going :D

Congratulations on completing your second run, that is huge, you are right, not just for you!! It is a massive achievement.

As for the music. That is completely up to you. The nhs one has prompt in it and encouragements to get you through. It depends whether you need these to keep you going, or whether listening to you own music will help you more. Only you can decide that.

I would listen to the podcast and give it your full attention for 9 weeks. It's not long in the scheme of things. You need to listen carefully to the prompts, instructions and tips. You can listen to what you like after you graduate ☺ Commit to it, own it, do it and you'll be on that podium before you know it. Good luck. Have fun!

Welcome and well done, it takes a big effort to do the second run.

As others have said there are a variety of ways to listen to your music with apps and. It is your choice.

I ended up downloading the podcasts and preferred them as the music was chosen to help with the runs and pace. I also liked the cues and encouragement from Laura. The apps have a choice of voices too.

I found writing a run report was really helpful and reading others engaged and supported me especially through the highs and lows.

Have fun deciding, it is your journey.......

The music is dreadful but most of us suffered through it. Some songs are so bad, they're a rite of passage.

I enjoy running to podcasts, but I wouldn't have during the program. Too much to concentrate on at once. You can always try it out.

Its only half an hour knit and sew. Agree with Misswobble, just concentrate on getting through each run section with the helpful comments, the music is cheesy but its supposed to inspire you on. Its useful to be told you're doing well etc. and you become familiar with how you are feeling at certain points.

Good luck, do keep doing the plan whatever you decide as it really works.

Have fun.x

Oi. "I'm 59 so obviously radio 4"..... I'm 42 and I listen to radio 4!! Love a good afternoon drama me 👍Infact I was brought up listening to it so I guess there's no escape now.......

I dont know if its still available but I used the app (I didn't know about the podcasts then) which let you listen to what you want & Laura just interupted at the appropriate time. BUT. I have to agree with the others. Stick with the music. I found I was concentrating so hard on lasting the time till Laura told me to stop that I never really heard what was playing anyway. 😆😆

Good luck with the programme. 👍

Thanks everyone for the responses, and I too was brought up on Radio 4!! Good choice I think! I might try and find a couch to 5k that gives me the option so that I can see how I do but appreciate that the concentration may prove too much!! Thanks for the compliment about the quilt however I was hoping that it was going to be the photo that represented me. Clearly clicked on the incorrect option!! Jane

Hi there! I asked the same question last week, as I don't care for the music either, so I did a little experiment last week. I downloaded the app, and tried my own music, but found this really threw my pace off, and I found the running segments much harder not having Laura's encouragement. Ultimately it's up to you, but I decided to stick with the podcasts until I graduate.
