W6 R1 ๐Ÿ˜‚ a nice dose of humility needed methinks

After my high on W5 R3, today when Laura said run for 5 minutes I almost laughed - 5 minutes Laura?? I ran for 20 minutes last week - what a doddle this is going to be............

Er.....no it wasn't - think I was being ever so slightly cocky ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜‚ and of course there are 9 weeks for a reason!

Found it tough going - it was hot and as usual I was on hilly terrain and boy those naughty gremlins told me to stop especially by the bench in the shade by a cool pool....

I did it by telling myself two things 1) You ran for 20 mins non stop last week so stop being a woose 2) You have to post this run and you are NOT going to say you didn't complete it ๐Ÿ˜„ so thank you guys x

Best thing is I got to the 3k mark today and ran my fastest and (most importantly to me) my most consistent speed (Don't panic! Fast is not fast - actually it's too embarrassingly slow to post)

Onwards and upwards on for R2 on Friday

Finally best of luck to the five finishing this week/ weekend - looking forward to seeing all your fabulous graduation posts ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ“

  • Well done it seems everyone today has had a bit of a shocker and there is no reason for it as we are all capable of doing this or we wouldn't be as far along as we are. Congrats on the 3k bet you didn't think you'd do that

  • Never in a zillion years! It's a funny thing though - we have tough runs and we still keep going - already looking forward to Friday. It's so addictive. And this forum is so amazing - I give little cheers when people graduate and smile at peoples stories and hopefully now help ( a little) those behind me on this journey ๐Ÿ˜„

  • It is so much so but I think what unites us is we want to do this for ourselves and for family

  • Couldn't agree more - I quit smoking (loved it) when my grandchildren came along and this is for my family as I want to live as long as I can, healthily, and so be around the children and grandchildren and watch them grow :-). It's also for me as I am tired of puffing around, not being agile enough to do simple things and feeling generally tired......

  • Onward and upward.. go you for not giving in! Speed is all relative...as is time... :)

    well done..

So humid here... really unpleasant, currently... but the drop of rain has helped the garden :)

  • Same here but no rain so far :-(

  • well done. I know what you mean about having to post. While I am running I start thinking about what I will have to report.

This programme is amazing and the forum is the icing on the cake. I didn't use to read many of the week 6, 7, 8 posts and as for week 9, well they were much too far ahead to think about. But now I am reading them all and I love how we are all going from tentative reports and asking advice for beginners to feeling able to offer support and encouragement to the newer people. And feeling that we have got to know those about to graduate so it is exciting to watch them approaching the finish line.

  • That's exactly it Sue - it's fabulous :-)

  • lightweightkate - I could have posted an identical report on this run too. I think you do get a bit cocky after that first 20 minute run! I definitely would not still be here if it were not for this forum but boy am I glad I am:-)

Like RunaroundSue I often plan my posts while I am running - unfortunately by the time I get over the euphoria of completing, stretch and have a drink I've completely forgotten what I meant to say and have to come up with something different!! You all have no idea what brilliant posts you are missing!

  • Haha! Your posts are brilliant OldPossum - I love them :-)

  • Brilliant! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜„

  • Oh no - the curse of week 6 strikes again!

You're not alone - loads of people find this week and the return to intervals really tricky.

I blame Laura, that little minx....

  • Ahhh.....nice to know I'm not the only one :-) She is a minx but I do love her :-). I think Irish-John wrote recently about "his" Laura and I wanted to tell him she wasn't his she was mine ๐Ÿ˜‚ So sad!

  • Actually she is mine. My best buddy.

  • Well done Kate! I was warned about week 6 so I had a heads up but was still caught out by the return to intervals. Past the halfway mark now...(it's all downhill from here) ;) Good luck with run 2 :)

  • I haven't thought about it like that that.......past halfway....what a great feeling - thanks McFitty :-)

  • I should have said 'well' past halfway... you hit that marker on Week 5 run 2! :)

  • haha! thanks :-)

  • Well done lightweightkate ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ I struggled on this run too, it was hard. However, you did it and you are well on the way to your next one.

What an achievement, in your running road. We all savour it with you. Yea, through it ๐Ÿ‘ฏ Happy dance for you

  • Thanks Ellymeg - small steps - literally and figuratively :-) but onwards and upwards
