W6 R1. Needed that after a sh!t day.

Just back from week 6 run 1, took it nice and slow after reading a lot of posts about it. It was ok, last 5 mins was tough and i felt a bit shuffly. Its really cold here and went dark very quickly so used my head torch for first time which took some getting used to!

Ive had a shitty day today because at 06.30 am in the pitch black and heavy rain, two deer ran out in front of my car and I hit the second one. I think it lived because it ran off but had its back leg up. I slammed on so hard when first one ran out but the other was right behind it and I skidded into it. I feel terrible about it and people say it's just one of those things living in the Highlands but it doesnt feel like that to me! 😢

That is really rough zobles. It sucks and I'm sorry you had to go through that. Sounds like there's not much you could have done to avoid that second deer. At least the run went well. It's strange how good it is for stress inside your head. It seems to work that way for me anyway. Hope tomorrow brings better things for you!

Hi there. Well done on your run. That's something to be proud of and regards to the deer,I fully understand.

Years ago the same thing happened to me but it was 2 cats that ran in front of my car. The 1st one I missed but the 2nd one was hit.

I didn't kill that cat but by the time I got out the car and tried to get to hit, 3 more cars came along and it it again killing it.

That night broke my heart and up to this day whenever I go past that spot, memories come flooding back.

It's not a nice thing to happen to anyone and I fully understand why your day would feel so terrible.

On the bright side though, you did the run and well done for that.

That is awful, so sorry that happened to you. I did kill a cat with my car about 12 years ago. It still haunts me and it was on the way to work so for many years I felt exactly like you did every time I passed the spot.

I eat meat...I actually eat deer meat but hitting one behind the wheel has really upset me and feels so brutal!

Was about 10 ago for me too. We're good people and so thats why it hurts us. We have a conscious. The night it happened I all called the police. I was soo upset that I left my car in the middle of the road for over an hour. I was shaking like a leaf and couldn't put myself back behind the wheel for over an hour. The police laughed at me on the phone but I didn't know what to do. Ended up calling the rspca and they said they would come and remove the remains from on the road and check for a chip. Up to the time I left, they hadn't arrived and so I don't know if they ever came.

Once you're a animal lover, these things hurt but I'm sure we're forgiven because it wasn't deliberate but an accident.

Anyway I hope you cheer up and please don't be so hard on yourself. That deer is probably doing just fine. Good luck with your future runs.

Oh no, that's awful :-( And whatever people say, it's not just one of those things at all. Just remember, it wasn't your fault, and you shouldn't feel guilty. I know that probably doesn't help.

So glad you had a decent run. I loved week 6, I really felt I was getting somewhere, and it must have been great to clear your head after the business with the deer.

You take care, ok?

That's an awful thing to happen even though it wasn't your fault

I can understand why you feel bad about it. I would feel the same.

I find running is a great way to cope with a day like that. I always try to run after a tough day at work.

Thank you guys. The run has helped clear my head and I did have a cry half way through thinking about it. Sadly it is very common up here, I see enough road kill to know that but always hoped I would never be the one responsible.

What an experience with the deer.. you did your best.. well done! You did well to get out for your run... move on.. slow and steady... hopefully the deer will recover too :)

Really sorry about your tough day. I have sooo nearly done that sooo many times. Sad but not your fault :( For me it was a pheasant today; slammed on but could not miss it...

Anyway, you ran. Well done :) Must be chilly with you right now- Love the Highlands!

It's awful isnt it. The partridge and Pheasant seem to be a little suicidal up here but luckily I have always managed to get passed them!

It's beautiful up here, clear skies and gorgeous sunsets but you are right its bloody freezing. Currently 2 degrees!

Not a nice thing to happen but sadly sh@t like this occurs but I'm sure you'd give anything for it not to have done but it was a tragic accident so don't beat yourself up to much, on a brighter note well done for getting out there and completing that run
