I got heckled 😱

I have been overwhelmed by the dark spectre of depression for the past couple of weeks and it has been extremely hard to get out of the door. I have been able to get out a few times but have been going when I knew no one would be about. Today I was feeling brave and decided to try a different route and go through the village instead of skirting around the edge. Then along came an old white Escort containing two F@#k Wits. The language was choice and the suggestions physically impossible. I would normally, especially in my current fragile state, have been very distressed by this, but, I was fine. I thought about people on the forum who have spoken about being heckled and the advice and support they have been given and, I was OK! I never thought I would be able to run and I never thought I would be able to shrug off something like this. I think Doctors should be able to prescribe this forum as an antidepressant. Thankyou to all of you who post support and advice here. You really made a difference to me today πŸ’•

  • Good for you! Glad they didn't get to you - it shows that running makes us stronger in more ways than one.

  • Good to hear! We build gremlin armour, bully armour, etc. around each other and ourselves :-)

  • I like the idea of bully armour!

  • Aw this is brilliant Buns !

    Well done you !

Yes, they will always be idiots like those in the car, but don't give them head space :-) You did the right thing in just ignoring them , youre doing this for YOU, theyre not worth a second of your time .

Good on ya Buns ! :-) xxx

  • Thankyou, I feel quite invincible at the moment!

  • Fantastic - good for you! That is what running (and this forum) is all about! There is definately an air of strength and defiance on this forum today! Have a good weekend☺

  • Good on you! I think running builds confidence.☺

  • Who's the winner, a couple of cocks shouting out of their window or someone changing their life for the better? That's an easy one.

  • Me! I win πŸ‘

  • Good for you don't waste a second of your time on idiots xx

  • Wow. Good for you! I imagine lots of us come to this forum and C25k for physical health reasons. But look how powerful it is for mental health and confidence.

Well done and keep it up!

  • Thanks, I find the positivity on here amazing πŸ‘

  • keep running and ignore the taunts and the idiots that unfortunately blight our towns and cities nowadays...keep going Buns!!

  • Glad you rained positive. There will always be people with their own difficulties leading to stupid behaviour. Your attitude shows just how strong you are.

  • Running has made me more resilient. I think I'll keep doing it!

  • Fantastic. My conclusion for today is that running rocks! (and so does this forum)

  • So glad you ignored them, there's no point getting up tight about a couple of idiots. I always think it's a really brave thing just putting on your shoes and getting out there, wobbly bits and all. I've had nothing but encouragement from all my friends who run, which is great.

  • I feel really brave today!

  • Oh well done - what absolute idiots! You are so much better than them! Glad you are starting to feel better. X

  • Go you! Running and ignoring those complete idiots.

    Easier said than done...but you did😏 x

  • This is brilliant! Love it.

  • And another thing, I have just noticed that you are a graduate - hey how many people can run for 30 minutes, how dare they!!

  • Here is the score:

    Bundoodle 10 - F$$kwits 0

    You win big time.

  • Good for you!

  • Haha in their face Buns!!! You go girl!!!! Absolutely love your attitude- finding myself that the incredible support on here is helping enormously when I feel most fragile. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

  • Some days I just come on here and read the posts and replies just to renew my faith in humanity.

  • You could always have asked them what time they had to be home with their Grandad's car 😱😱

Well done for not letting them get to you. Bet they couldn't do what you now can Graduate πŸ‘

  • WOW!!!

More power to you and to the positive vibes of both running and this forum.

    Keep running, keep smiling.

  • It's awesome that they didn't get to you! I'll keep this post in mind next time I am having anxiety about going out for a run. Thank you for sharing!

  • We are stronger than we think. Keep on running πŸ‘πŸƒ

  • Just remember, bundoodle - every time you run you get fitter and fitter, while they will always be idiots.

  • Good for you! Maybe they are bored, frustrated underachievers, but who cares? We all have the ability to choose how we behave. You, on the other hand, chose to act with dignity and self respect.πŸ‘

  • Thank you!

  • Well done! From one heckled novice runner to another

  • Good for you Bundoodle , poppypug is so right , you are doing by this for you , keep at it 😊

  • good for you😊 I also suffer from the dreaded D an have found running has helped alot.πŸƒ xxx

  • Running gives me so much, I wish I had discovered it years ago. The post run buzz is amazing πŸ˜ƒ

  • Aw bundoodle, your post really made me smile. I read this just before I went out for a run. I also suffer from depression and have found running to have helped. I've just had a really good run as I beat my 5k PB, but I did get laughed at from a car for the first time (that I've been aware of...)! But I thought of your post and just shrugged it off ... some morons in a crappy car can't get us down! long may our runs be happy and positive :)

  • So glad to have passed on the C25K positivity! There will always be morons (sometimes in crappy cars) to deal with, but as long as we use the strength within ourselves, buoyed up by the support of others like us, there is nothing we can't do! Yes, I am having a much better day today πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

  • Well done for getting out there! I know it's tough. And what a great state of mind you must have been in to cope so admirably with the idiots. Go you!

  • Thankyou, the tough ones just make us tougherπŸ‘

  • What an amazing difference it has made for you, I think lots of us have found the same. I tell myself that the starers and shouters are just jealous, they couldn't do what we are doing! Well done, x

  • Just saw this post. I was worried about what I was going to read, and came out at the end grinning all over my face. Just what you need on a run: a couple of w**kers in a tanker to remind you what the dark side looks like. Good for you for ignoring them and moving on: it's water off a duck's back, or as they say in France, "Toad spit can't reach the white dove".

  • Thankyou. I just wanted to share my appreciation for the support I get from the forum. It really makes a difference to me. πŸ•Š

  • you are brilliant ! Go you that is a sign of resilience you are on the way up and out of that depression !! Even if you don't think so 😊

  • It's tough at the moment but I will get there πŸ‘

  • p.s I have also lived with the dark spectre myself and it is now gone and has been for over 5 years :-)

  • one step at a time you will :-)
