The best advice you'll get will be from a specialist running shop, especially one that has facilities to assess your gait. From there you'll know which type of shoe you need, which is more important than choosing a particular brand. My local shop sent me off in several different pairs to run up and down the road to check for snug, supportive fit and overall comfort.

I chose Brooks Ghost, mainly because they are available in wide fit. I LOVE them!

Happy shopping! 🏃

Yes, go to a running shop and get them to advise you. Your feet are not the same as my feet and the shoes that are perfect for me may be terribly bad for you. Or perfect.

If you need glasses, consult an optician. If you need running shoes, consult a running shoe shop.

I like asics but as everyone else has said, even in that brand there are lots of types of running shoe so get checked out and see what works best for you.

The best running shoes are the one you feel good in. Just make sure they are big or wide enough to allow your feet and toes to swell.

I agree with the advice to go to a running shop and have your gait analysed. I had to stop running for about ten days due to knee pain, and went and got my gait analysed (it didn't cost anything) at a shop called Up&Running (google them, there may be one near you as they are a chain). Turns out I over-pronate really badly, which means my foot rolled in, putting my lower leg at an angle which caused my tendons to put too much pressure on the inside of my knee, aggravating an old injury.

Then they brought me a number of different brands of shoes - two pairs of Japanese brands, and two pairs of American brands - the fit and styles were quite different. I went back and forth between them until I kept coming back to one pair which felt right - Mizuno Wave Inspire. Also we went a half size bigger than my usual shoe size. Back on the treadmill and the analysis was totally different. No knee issues since!

Yes follow the above advice. Don't just go for any nice brand. Choosing the right shoe may cause you sores blisters or even injury.

In addition to the excellent advice above, I'd simply add to go *at least* half a size bigger than your normal shoe. I'm a size 7 normally - my Asics Gel Pulse 5's are size 8.5! Nice wide toe-box and my I've never had any issues with toes rubbing/blistering etc.
