I just went for a run

I haven't run for a week due to one thing and another so haven't yet moved to week 7. However I went out after work tonight in the rain and thought I would just run for however long I felt able to, no structure, just wing it.  The rain was refreshing actually and I ran for 20 minutes, and it felt pretty good.  So I think I will do that a couple more times before moving on, because I like the feeling of just running and enjoying it!  It's amazing how much easier it now feels than that first time I did 20 minutes.  I have also found that what I eat afterwards has a massive impact on how tired I feel, so I'm learning!  On hols in Oxfordshire next week, so will look forward to running in new scenery 😀

I know what you mean, Lisa! For some reason, going "off piste" and doing a run with no reference to the C25K programme feels much easier - I guess because you don't have a goal to achieve. I find that when I do that I'm always more conscious of how I feel when I am running - how my feet hit the ground, how straight my back is, etc.

Very well done Lisa.  That sounds like an excellent idea - just run with no pressure.  What I would say is that if you have gotten past W5 andW6, you are definitely over the worst and should have no problem at all finishing the programme.  Very well done.  :)

So glad to hear you are really enjoying it because that's what will keep you running.

Hi Lisa . I was interested in what you said about eating after running and fatigue. I am on w3 and would value your insight. What foods make you feel more or less fatigued after a run?

I find a decent hit of protein is essential, the best meal I have had so far is a chicken and cashew stir fry which has protein both from the chicken and cashew nut butter. Anything like pizza or other less nutritious food just makes me feel sluggish and very tired. Straight after a run I have a couple of medjool dates with almond butter and a glass of water with a few drops of an electrolyte replacement I got from a health food shop, seems to help. I suffered a lot from fatigue in the early weeks and I think diet really helps. Bear Grylls' beef chilli is also a good post run meal.
