Well done Gary- good attitude with taking things at your own pace, and ignoring the rain.
Keep er going, it'll pay off and your body will respond in amazing ways. After 36 years off the track, two drug addictions 20 years apart, these last 6 years of a sedentary life and being an ex smoker, (11 years on cigs, 15 years off another 5 years on again and now 6 years off), I have started this and I am amazed at how this old abused and neglected body is keeping up with the program. A few times already, I have said to myself that there is no way I can jump from what I am doing to the next level, (like from jogging 3 minutes to running 6 minutes etc), sincerely feeling like and believing that I can just not do that. Then, each time, like magic, the body does it! At the end of week 3 I slightly pulled a femoris. I had to merely jog a week while it healed before I could resume wk 4 which required running. I ended up jogging 26 and then 29 minutes non stop!. That femoris healed in a week and I accomplished wk4R1&2. Now in the middle of week 4 I sliced the pad of my right foot open. :-\
Nothing will stop me at this point. I will heal and I will do this until by the grace of God until I can run 5K in 30 minutes. But I have smaller goals before that, like run 10 minutes, run 15 minutes, run 30 minutes etc . . . At 53 years old, I can not afford to go another day neglecting my fitness.
I have been highly encouraged not only by how the body progresses but by the kindness, encouragement, and testimonies of the people in this forum. Lot's of awesome people, lots of ordinary people just like you and I who are doing the same thing.
I wish you luck and success.
Keep going and good luck
