After a couple of weeks of excuses, weather, not the right gear etc, I finally went for it. Great, loved it and managed to complete it all without having to give up. I think I'm finally coming around to running as a pleasurable experience. Previous experiences in my 20's, 30's and 40's were never great. But then again, no computers or mobile phones to assist you, it was flat out running until my legs exploded! wrong, wrong, wrong. But I didn't know any difference then. Before the run I have read tons of blogs and postings on various websites and the main thing that stands out is "Take it slow, steady" (Hare and Tortoise spring to mind!) and it worked for me. I was so pleased to have completed it. So here's to run 2 later in the week!!!!
And Finally..........W1R1 completed (a newbie) - Couch to 5K
And Finally..........W1R1 completed (a newbie)
Well done! W1R1 is the hardest - at least in my limited experience. Keep going and you'll feel such a sense of pride every time you progress
You've done the worst bit, getting out and doing the first run. I bet it was nothing like you expected. Slow and steady will get you to wherever you want to be. Well done and keep going.
Well done for getting out there, it's a good feeling isn't it And yes, slow and steady is definitely the way to go
Yeay.. go you.. well done. Slow and steady is the mantra.. it is fine to go slowly... just don't stop!
Beware though.. this whole running journey is completely addictive and now you have posted.. we are all here, watching, encouraging and supporting your every run
Welcome to this community - everyone is great, so supportive and positive. Well done for starting, it is a big step and one you will not regret. I quite often think about the tortoise.......slow and steady, that is the best.
I put it off for months before getting started, so well done you! I've made similar experiences with running in the past but what I really like about this programme is it trains you to run. I love my running now. The first 10 min is still a struggle since my body doesn't seem keen but after that it is straight forward and I wouldn't want to miss it. I get really frustrated if something prevents me running now and this is not who I used to be. We'll have you hooked, just wait and see
Hi, I can totally agree with all your points there. I never thought I would be motivated enough to want to do it, but this programme has made me look at what I had previously been attempting and realise that I was expecting instant rewards. You would think that I'd have know that you don't start running from day 1 any distance, especially as I play musical instruments and you don't pick one of those up and play like a concert performer from day 1 do you, it takes time, effort and practice!!! A lesson learned there I think. LOL. Anyway, managed W1R2 last night too and no major issues. Thanks for your support.
