Hi everyone,
So I did my first Parkrun today in Market Harborough and while I've done 5 or 6 5k runs I persuaded the Mrs to come along and do her W6R3 at the event.
My thinking was that I would be gallant and run the 25 minutes with her then we could walk to the finish.
So there we were bright an early, everyone seemed friendly, the anticipation was high and we were a little nervous to begin with.
Absolutely loved the start, 191 runners all going off at the same time. I told the Mrs to take it nice and easy and set a pace she was happy with and off we went.
No music, no headphones just me and the wife, chatting and running along in a park enjoying ourselves.
The course was three laps of Welland Park and we were running comfortably at not far off the pace I normally run at.
Halfway around the second lap the Mrs tells me she doesn't want to stop at 25 minutes and she intends to run the 5k.Β
So around we went and slowly but surely we started to overtake a few people and before you know it we were on the final corner with a couple of hundred meters to go.
Then my Mrs goes for the sprint finish and the fastest k we do is the last one!
All in all we had a fantastic day, we finished together in what I thought was a very respectable time for our first Parkrun of 33 minutes 39 seconds.
I am so proud and happy for the wife, the longest she had run before today was 20 minutes and she'd never run for 5k before, but you would never have known that just by looking at her.
Well done wife π
Bob
