The best ones are the ones that suit you🙂. Really, as long as you are running problem free then they are fine for you. As you get further into the programme, or if you do develop aches and pains in your feet, knees, legs then gait analysis may be in order. This is carried out for free at running shops (and nothing to be afraid of) and will show how you run and suggest shoes for you. It doesn't have to cost a fortune. Have a look around the site there are lots of posts around this subject 😀.

There are a lot of different favourites and all of the brands are good and loved by someone or other on here. It's a case of whatever fits best and feels most comfortable for you, so I think the only thing you may find that we agree on is that a visit to a proper running shop is a good starting point :-) Once you know what you like it's easy to replace online, but to start with you should try and visit a shop. Good luck - I hope you find "your" shoes!!

AnnieW's first sentence is the simple answer, but when you add to that the shoes for different forms of running you begin to realise there is no such thing as a simple answer to your question. Not only do we all have individually sized and shaped feet and differing running styles, but the range of shoes on offer vary hugely too. Some manufacturers make wider shoes than others, even though the nominal size may be the same. Go to a reputable running shop and get advice. The likes of Sports Direct may sell good value items but you are unlikely to get good advice simply because the training is so poor.

The running shop would be my first choice. Once you've got the best advice from those who actually run themselves then further down the line you can shop online if you want to, but there's nothing like that first proper running shop shoe-buying experience. They will narrow the choice right down for you in the first few minutes, making the final choice so much easier. The ones chosen for me were excellent and I ran hundreds of miles in them.

Have fun with your shopping and be sure to take a photo of your chosen shoes to post on here. It's the law!

Oh, I forgot to say, last year's running shoe models are always cheaper. Don't be afraid to ask to see those as well as the current year's offerings.

Not what you're looking for?
