Graduation Trainers & first running 5k

Evening all - today I was redefining knackered (like a few of us recently!) But it was a “chilly” 20 degrees so I had to go out!! (Sorry doctor, the endorphins made me do it!).

After the last few runs I’ve been having heel pain, not excruciating, just feels bruised. Dont think it’s PF but I popped into a running shop today and explained the symptoms and my current GT2000’s were 2.5 years old and they suggested getting a new pair (which is the leap I’d kinda made already)...

Came away with a pair of Kayano 25’s and the results are attached. Over all an ok run. Feet hurt in new places, but I put that down to new shoes.

Also after the last 2/3 nights of roasting in bed at night, I’d only slept for about 4hrs last night, so was really tired. This manifested itself in me needing a little walk after about 25 minutes (20 seconds ish).

Still made a reasonable pace and made absolutely damn sure I ran the additional 100m tonight!

My first running 5k ever!

Whatever you’re doing, keep smiling people! ❤️

Lol - although I do want to try a pair of Hoka’s or Brooks - I just don’t want to pay > £100 for the privilege!!

You want to try Hokas??

Sooo ugly , but so far working for my dodgy gait.

I'm off setting the cost with the saving I am making on not seeing the sports physio for a couple of weeks.🤩

Good run for you though. Well done.

Well done! And a good time too! Your stats show 700 calories - mine only says 300 for me after 5k. Think i like your app better!

LoungeLizaard profile image
LoungeLizaardGraduate in reply toPippayoungart

Lmao - It’s Strava. Most runs say high 600’s or 7’s!!

Maybe that's why some people are losing more weight than others?! 😂😂

Well done on hitting the 5k despite the heat and new shoes! Hope those shoes sort your heels out for you now. ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️😎

Well done, 5K awesome! Snap, we're shoe twins! Nearly. I've got Kayano 24s. Loving them. Happy running to you 🏃‍♂️

I hope we’re not hand twins as well! That’d be freaky (that won’t be funny at all if you don’t get the reference lol)

I'm really hoping you're referring to Friends?? If so, we could be!!

Otherwise I'm lost 😀

I was!! But that episode was soooooooo long ago!! lol

DeeRunning profile image
DeeRunningGraduate in reply toLoungeLizaard

I don't really remember it from the episode, just from Matt LeBlanc on Graham Norton recently singing the Hand song lol.

Btw we need a photo of new trainers please :)

I bought the black/yellow ones..... Then inadvertently I put on a dayglo yellow climbacool top and black shorts..... I must have looked like a giant Bee!!

Photo's to follow on next run.... I ran Monday but have been woken up for one reason or another on Monday & Tuesday, so will probably not run today, but will def run (regardless of sleep!) on Friday

Great running LL! You seem to have found a great pace. I’d love to do 7 min km too. Ive got an 8 min km pace and a silly fast pace but don’t know how to speed up a little bit. I haven’t actually used Strava yet even though I’ve got the app. I might try it tonight.

Cheers fella - was thinking about you the other day, wondering where’d you been!?

It must be because of being tall, but I find it harder to slow down counciously - although Strava has told me that I’ve done a 7.30 pace as well.... that might have been on an interval run tho??

It’s a combination of end of term stuff and World Cup thanks. Hopefully things settling down now. 😀

LoungeLizaard profile image
LoungeLizaardGraduate in reply toDexy5

Cheers Dexy! Hopefully many more to come! I just need to get more than 4hrs unbroken sleep!

Dexy5 profile image

It’s been so difficult with this hot weather but at least it’s cooling down at night now.

My niece gave me some sleep inducing tea (called dozy girl!) at Christmas and I make a cuppa with it if I get up in the middle of the night because I can’t sleep. It works wonders .

LoungeLizaard profile image
LoungeLizaardGraduate in reply toDexy5

I might look into that.... my problem was first the heat, then it cooled down and my 8 yr old started waking up with tummy pains!! So every night this week has either been 4 hrs heat / restless sleep or 5/6 hrs broken sleep getting up 2/3 times!
