So I ran for 5K! Slowly but I ran!

Every Monday I have been going to the local council run couch to 5k group, I have only missed one session during the last 9 weeks due to illness which was week 8 so I have actually ended up being slightly behind, however yesterday I went to the last session which was to do the local parkrun 5k route, I thought that I would possibly have to walk some of it but I am proud to report that I ran for the whole course in a time of 44 minutes and 47 seconds, I know that before I graduate I need to run another twice for 30 minutes but I am just so proud of myself. I have enjoyed every minute of the 9 weeks and am looking forward to my running adventures. I'm going to do my first park run on Easter Saturday.

It's great that you have a couch 2 5k group run by the council. I'm impressed. What council is it if you don't mind me asking, I'd like to get ours to do something too.

Redditch borough Council, Google Run Redditch, the c25k groups have been free. If I hadn't of started through them I don't think I would have got this far, I'm now going to join the social run on a Monday. I can't wait.

Councils have a statutory duty to improve the health of their citizens (have had since 2014 when public health transferred out of the NHS) so you might want to mention this if you're going to lobby your council. Funding has been cut back though, and there are certain things they have to provide with the money, leaving less for discretionary activities like running clubs. It's great that they're doing it in Redditch though.
