So, I set off with an aim tonight and, not including cool down and warm up, I ran 5k none stop (except for crossing roads) at a very slow snail pace. The first two Kms took ten minutes each then the next two took nearly 9 minutes each and my final km was 10 so 48 minutes altogether. But, I did it, I ran to Jane Austen's house and back.
Most that I have ran until today was 35 minutes so the extra time is currently being felt in my legs. Am so pleased that I did it though.
I am doing a 4k Santa run for the British Heart Foundation in December so desperately wanted to show myself that I can do it.

For those of us who were nowhere near 5k in distance in 30 mins at graduation that first 5k run certainly feels another leap from the C25K doesn't it but the program has prepared us for those step ups and how to achieve them. I've joined the local ParkRun now and hope to improve my time over 5k.
Good luck with the Santa run. Fab charity to run for.
Thank you, at least I now know that I can do the distance without dieing. Plan is to try once a week to do 5k but other runs just work on 30 minutes or so. We'll see
Do you have a local ParkRun? If so why not consider giving it a go, you then get a timesd 5k once a week and you can see your progress. Really friendly and encouraging people there too.
I am always happy to pop back for Love and Friendship. And it's just a shame that I ran listening to Philip Pullman instead of Mansfield Park or Northanger Abbey
You have truly inspired me. I graduated 3 weeks ago and have been floundering around trying to break the 4K barrier while trying to look like a runner. Reading your brilliant achievement has made me decide to focus and just run.....bugger the time.
Sascha, that is how I felt with trying to go faster, so I decided to ditch the music and timer and listened to a radio,4 afternoon play. And today, it worked.
I have been despondent at not being quicker or feeling like I was improving after graduation so I just decided to ditch the timer and see what I could do
