Which plan are you following? I'm gonna do the BUPA one. Not just yet though. I'm having a few weeks of keeping to the same weekly total before upping the training.

I'm doing the Bupa one too.

It's not too bad. Just hoping my knee holds up with 4 runs a week.

Do you have one planned?

Not until 2017! Just finished 10k plan and that seems the next logical step. Going to take it slowly though.

Good luck with the training x

I started 4 runs a week at one point but it as too much so I went back to 3. You'll soon know if it's too much ☺

I trained for and completed my first HM in Oct 2015 -- I used run/walk for this. HOWEVER, I have found that run/walk has "ruined" my ability to run non-stop.

This year, I have a plan formed whereby I will train for and participate in 5K, 10K, 21.1K, 35K and 42.2 K events. I will also use run/walk for the longer events - BUT I will also make sure that I do non-stop training runs up to 10K and also participate in weekly parkruns.

Holy moly Bazza, that's some serious running...respect.

Good Luck

Well - I do have to do it first!! It's just a plan at this stage !! :)

Bazza, have you packed your suitcase yet? Don't forget your joggers, shorts, Garmin, kwell tablets and Laura of course.

Bazza1234 profile image

Got running shoes and shorts packed - no Garmin as GPS doesn't work on a ship- no kwell tablets needed- and I divorced Laura a long time ago ( I'm not sure what she is doing these days !! :) )

But I am going to give those onboard treadmills a good talking to -- mostly I will be saying "stay still for F***s sake - stop moving!!! " :) Got a 10 K "race" three weeks after we get home .

Right about GPS. Mine told me I had done 7k when I had only done a very short distance. I had forgotten the ship was moving. But then, it is good for your moral. The best PB in your life!

Have a great trip.

Cripes - well done! I'm just up to 10k, so I don't think I'll be trying a HM any time soon; I'm in awe of those who do, though.

Thanks mfam.

It's hard work although I had built my distance up to 15k back in November time but due to injury had to stop the long distances.

Think I'm gonna need all the Pom pom help I can get

Whats new Pussycat ? :-)

Oooh well done Jules, fantastic ! I did a Bupa plan for my first 10k and I was doing really well and then it all went a bit pear shaped when I went to 4 runs a week ,so I had to do a bit of jiggery pokery in the end .

You will know though if 4 runs a week is too much and you can jiggle it about a bit

Good Luck and keep us posted ! :-) xxx

Say this to yourself , 10 times before you go to bed every night, "run/walk, run/walk, run/walk! "

I wish I was joining you - I am temporarily on the injury couch while my running buddies are building up to a HM in 12 weeks time. Any idea how long you should take to build up to the HM?

Wassup Marina ? , ( sorry to butt in Jules ) xxx

Slightly dodgy heart rate one night Poppy - when they asked what I had been doing, I think the only thing they heard was that I had been running - despite the fact that I had finished running 5 hours earlier! So they said no running until it had been investigated! Personally I think it was stress and not running at all but there you go so I have been volunteering at Parkrun a lot and watching everyone else run!

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply to mcgurranhouse

Oh so you are being investigated ? When will you know ? Hope it isn't too long . I bet you are chomping at the bit to get back to it !!!

Good Luck Marina ! :-) xxx

Hi i love to read posts about half marathons to hear other people's plans and experience. I did my first just last Nov with some well advised support and encouragement from the forum. I hope you enjoy and savour it I have to say it was even more of a mile stone than even I anticipated. My general advice would be 4 runs a week if you can but 3 works fine 2. I increased a mile a week every week from 10 mile. I missed a long run (or 2 oops) but I was fine I found that doing my 2nd 10 miler and my longest long run of 19k were the confidence I needed. I also think that I didn't quite believe that I could really do it even on the day so I didn't prep properly the night before please believe you can do it don't make my mistakes. Once I did the 1st 3-4 k I got into my stride and loved it. Even got a nice complement from a marathon finisher. I hope you enjoy the experience and happy running!
