On Sunday I set out for my 1st run after graduating. It didn't go too good, after 15 minutes I had to start walking and I ran/walked for the rest of the way, thinking to myself all the way, why? You can do this, you did it 3 times last week. When I got home and looked at garmin, I saw that I had been running much faster than usual, so should have followed the golden rule and slowed down. Today's run went much better, I made sure I started off slow and when the 30 minutes was up decided to keep going to reach my first 4k. It took me 33 minutes but I'm chuffed with that. Next goal 5k. Got a Santa fun run on Sunday so will post some pics of that next week. Happy running everyone :)

Thanks Dave, I'm going to keep it slow for now. Will stick to 30 min runs for a couple more weeks then increase gradually until I can do the 5k

Well done, Sandy, for spotting where your problem was and fixing it. It's all too easy to just get despondent when something like that happens and bury yourself in a tub of Hagen Das! Congratulations, as well, on graduating, and getting out there. I look forward to hearing where you go from here.

Happy running.

Thank you! I don't need to feel despondent to tuck into ice cream lol. I think I was running faster because I went out later in the day and there were lots more runners about. It's quite a popular route. Still, lesson learnt, will remember to keep it slow for a few more weeks.

Great achievement and good goals. The key is to run a distance or time until it is getting easy and u feel u could keep going. Only add small amounts to your run time or distance (max of 10%). If your legs ache or recovery is slow, might consider reducing the next run, look after those legs
