We did it!!!!

I started C25K over 18 stone, over 40 and having been a lifetime lazy arse with high blood pressure!

Last weekend I did Cheltenham Half Marathon, not fast, 2 hours 40, but I did it, with my wonderful supportive hubby at my side.

If I can do it anyone can.

Go for it guys!!

Well done!!! Brilliant time too - never say that is not fast - my HM time is 3 hr and 4 min and that is as fast as I could go :)

Too right!! Well done you too - how many runners at Bristol? You were in the 25 thousands!!!

AndyD profile image
AndyDGraduate in reply tohappyharris

Yes, I did my first half in Bristol a few weeks ago. Not sure how many thousands entered.. But I know for sure there weren't too many behind me... 😁 Will try harder next time and prepare a bit better!

Finishing was my goal. Cheltenham was a great town to run around and the support was amazing - would recommend it x

Congrats! That's brilliant! Can I just ask when did you graduate and how did you move from 5k to half marathon? Any plans used? Thanks for advice and well done again.

I graduated about three years ago I think. I just gradually built up my mileage, but when I got to 18k I started getting tendonitis. So my preparation really suffered. So take it slowly!!

Yay! Great photo and a great achievement! Massive well done to you (and hubby of course!) ;-)

How long were you in training Roz? And how did you find the event on the day?

happyharris profile image
happyharrisGraduate in reply to

I'll be honest I found it tough. I started training about 4 months before and got up to 18k. I then started suffering with tendonitis, so rested for a while ( which didn't help) so ended up with anti inflammatory drugs and strapping up my ankle. So I had nowhere near the preparation I had planned unfortunately. So my advice is use a plan and build up slowly but believe anything is possible. I'll do it again and be better prepared I hope x

in reply tohappyharris

It's such a long way, I imagine the training (and day) must be hard for most people to varying degrees. I think you're great persevering through the tendonitis. A hm isn't something everyone can say they've done, but you can! I have harboured vague dreams of completing one at some point in the future.. who knows?! It's such a long way to run!

It is a long way. I have no aspirations of doing a full Marathon - I couldn't imagine doing that distance twice!!!!

That is excellent. I'm hoping to do my first HM next May. I started C25K in June last year - in much the same position as you. This running business has had a massive impact - far more than I expected! To see others achieving such great things is a great inspiration. I hope that next May I'll be posting this kind of picture & if I do the HM in less than 3 hours I"ll be chuffed!

Congratulations on your half marathon! :-D it is wonderful to see and read about people like yourself showing the rest of us (me) that great feats are achievable. I'm back at the start of the journey after about 6 months off due to foot and back problems and 5k seems a distant dream right now, but you've inspired me that I can do it and possibly go further too! I hope your tendonitis heals quickly :-) cracking photo too :-D
