I graduated C25K last Saturday at Parkrun, aiming to run the 30 mins, then run whatever I could manage for the remainder of the course. Ran most, but walked some.
Today I went back for more, and I RAN THE WHOLE THING!!
Stunned.
Delighted.
Pretty proud.
I took the advice of one of you lovely lot and chose someone to "stalk" for the first lap of the lake, but she slowed so much in the second lap that I overtook her and picked up my pace a little for the second lap. I passed the 30 mins mark feeling ok, but soon after I started to flag and was on the verge of slowing to a walk when came a tap on my shoulder and the words "Keep going - you're nearly there - we'll do it together". It was her - the girl who I'd been stalking for lap 1. It transpires that she had been stalking me since I passed her, and was relying on me to get to the finish.
It was the first time that either of us had run 5k non-stop. I really hope she's there next week so I can thank her

There are so many more motivators in this world than just the win, win, win that's emphasized (though it does have its place). Sometimes you can do something for the sake of keeping up the morale of some friend or team mate, who is doing exactly the same thing for you. That seems of a great deal more worth than the fact that the end attained by you two was to tick off the objective goal of running all the way - even though this was what was keeping both of you going. But well done.
Wonderful. I've 'stalked' a few people. When people have commented afterwards they have always been happy about it, some said it helped the get through too. I love parkrun because it's so inclusive and accepting.
And well done on finishing 5k without walking. While it doesn't matter if you walk, it's better not to HAVE to walk.
How lovely. Hope I find a stalker next week on my first outing at Park Run. Sounds as if you could have a well matched running buddy as well.
