Ow! I know that hurts. You'll probably be needing a lot of Reparil gel, or whatever it is they use these days. I hope you recover soon.

I sometimes wonder to myself, now, what I would do if I picked up an injury and lost ground that way. Maintaining cardio is would be really hard for you (arms are just no substitute for legs). I suppose for that you might try swimming? Probably the best long term training strategy is to take this time to really firm up the core. And maybe it's an idea to do some one-legged work aimed at making the other leg stronger?

i think making one leg stronger than the other is asking for trouble.... It will cause an imbalance that can have very negative effects on generalist rude and esp on the back , trust me, I had one leg in a plaster for 2 months plus 4 months before I could put all my weight on ou, so the other leg became much stronger. That was 34 years ago and I've had back problems in the past 15 because of that imbalance.

Have to edit this - small tablet screens without glasses make for really odd words!! it was meant to be " negative effects on general posture" not a generalist rude!! ;)

Yes, that makes sense, I suppose. Once you start training one legged, you have to change from being a runner to a hopper for a while, and the transition back could be painful.

Actually it hardly hurts at all today-I think it's just fluid. My knee, on the other hand hurts considerably and is swollen, red and rather hot. I think I must have landed on it when I went headlong off the gate but failed to feel it at the time because I was yelping about the ankle.

So Parkrun is postponed and I am trying to follow advice and apply all the sensible measures. My vet (daughter)is supervising treatment via Skype as she sees more of these sort of injuries than my doctor and she is actually licensed to treat all animals including humans!

Thank you all for your concern. I will be back.....

As someone who sprains an ankle once a year... Excellent news on the vet treatment! Look after it, it'll heal in a week.

Last time mine didn't hurt at all, but the whole foot was purple and the ankle was swollen like yours. I knew I'd done something serious as the crunching when I went down (and the nausea) was a bit of a hint. Was back up walking as normal in about three days.

Take care X

It went really well. Even managed a sub 7 minute kilometre in the middle of the run (that's huff and puff territory for me!) The ankle's fine and my spirits are lifted. Yorkshire 10 miler here we come!
