Easing back into it. Maybe.

After a disastrous few weeks with painful hips and groin and a very traumatic run that left me in tears and limping last Wednesday I've had this week resting. I've seen the osteopath and haven't even done my usual 10thousand steps a day. It's been very painful abc frankly s little depressing. I think things are a bit better? I'm still conscious of my groin but it's not stopping me from doing my normal daily activities and I'm feeling back to my usual self.

I wanna get jogging again.

I know I need to take is easy. My PB is 5.3km. I don't care about time.

I was thinking about trying a short jog tomorrow. Maybe 1km running, 1km walking and then repeat.

What do you think? Is that how others would ease back into it?

I'm not gonna lie, I'm really scared. But really need this right now. Jogging is what's keeping me sane at the mo and frankly I miss it.

Hi TwistaRuns. Sorry to hear you've been such trouble with your hips and groin. What did the osteopath say?

I'm not an expert by any means, but I would say it's probably best not to set yourself a target of running for a certain distance and then walking for a certain distance. I would just take it very slowly and do as much as you feel you can do, and, above all, listen to your body. I appreciate that you're anxious to get out there, but building up very slowly and gradually is probably the best way to go if you don't want to set your progress back again.

Good Luck with it anyway.

Hi ,I am right at the beginning of the programme so no expert but I have just got back into it following a sprained ankle that put me out of action for weeks. I felt scared too and started off hardly daring to put my foot down in case it collapsed underneath me! I went out a few times for a 'walk' just so I knew I didn't have to run if I didn't want too! Put trainers on but went in normal clothes so if I failed I wouldn't feel like a prat! Then I sneaked in a few 30 second jogs and thankfully all was well. I had the courage today to try week 1 run 1 of the programme and did it! I'm sure as you are well into the programme you are in better running condition than me but maybe try short runs incorporated in a walk and see how it goes? can sympathise with you and hope you get back in action real soon.

Hi Twisty

My physio said to me that the only way you will find out if it hurts to run , is to run. Saying that though, a very slow gentle jog and walking may be better.

Take it easy, and stop if you feel any pain.

Good Luck, and let us know how you go on xxx

So.. 1km was highly unrealistic really wasn't it?? I did a 2 song walk... 1 song jog, 2 song walk, 1 song run and then had to walk the rest as it really was getting quite sore. Got home and did some extra stretches. Really hoping it doesn't end up like last week.

I've text a sports physio that's been recommended to me so maybe he's my next step...

Fingers crossed for you and hope you dont suffer any after effects. I totally sympathise with you, I was nearly tearing my hair out over my hip pain.

It will get better Twisty, it just needs time :-) xxx

Hmm. I wouldn't do a 1k run. Not to start with. I was thinking a rather careful 1 minute run and a four minute walk, something along those lines and maybe just around the block or on the trail, but not too far.

Take care. I hope it goes all right

You're right. 1km was unrealistic!

I'm in the same boat. Due to hip and groin pain. Like you I have rested completely and have an physio appointment this afternoon. I can post again later after getting their advice. It's driving me mad no exercise, but I know it's for the best.

When I started the podcast, I ran in loops around my neighbourhood. It really was going around in circles, but I wanted to be able to drag myself home quickly if anything went wrong. That might be a good strategy for you, too, as you get back into it. Good luck!

Good plan. Might just do up n down canal coming back to where I started sooner than my loop xx
