Hiking near Manchester....

Hello, I want to try and get back into hiking I've hiked in the peak district before now but are there any other places near manchester that i don't know of? can anyone suggest any great places to hike apart from peak district or the lakes, thank you..... cant wait for your responses and to get back into it!

Yes and if you want an easy time of it, ill run it with you tomorrow, I'm the tail runner. I've completed it 16 times to date and a regular volunteer. My PB is 25m 30, see you tomorrow, never put off tomorrow what you can do today.

There's loads around your area. Some lovely walks around Hollingworth lake and Littleborough area. There's some decent climbs around Ogden reservoir and Dovestones. A little bit further afield there's some good routes around Todmorden.

I did a lot of my D of E walks around there, allbeit nearly 20 years ago (So I'd struggle to give you specifics) but there's loads out there!

yeah hollingworth lakes a good route not been to ogden and dovestones thanks for the heads up il start planning some of the routes round there

Yes, plenty. Loads of good walk over near Rochdale, winter hill, scout moor, Haslingden grane. Go to walkhighland website, log into 1/25th scale you'll find loads

Depends how far you want to travel. The Forest of Bowland is not too far away and has some great walking, not as busy as the Lakes. And the Howgill fells are quieter too. You could venture into Shropshire - Long Mynd, Stiperstones. walkingbritain.co.uk/index.php is a good site to look for ideas. Happy hiking!

If you go to walk4life.info you can access the OS explorer maps and see what tickles your fancy within range. The Pennines seem the most obvious thing for you although who could ever get tired of the Peak District?

thank you I;ll check itout, I know I do love the peak district it will never get tiresome.
