Gait Analysis

I had seen lots of talk of folk having a gait analysis done. But the only place I knew close to me was a very expensive gym and I didn't want to spend £100s on new trainers etc.

Today I was in my local town and out of curiosity wandered into DW Sports to see what they had in store. To my surprise there was a chap there having a gait analysis done. So when he'd finished I asked for one. I can't imagine what the other shoppers thought, me running on a treadmill, as I wasn't dressed in any kind of sports wear and without a sports bra on, and being of the larger variety in that department, I was glad I had my back to everyone.

Anyway, it was the best thing I could have done because it turns out I have over pronation. When he showed me on the computer it was so clear. So I now have a new pair of asics cushion trainers (only £34 bargain) and some insoles to correct the problem. When I ran again with this combination I could instantly see and feel the difference. Seems this over pronation is what has been responsible for my ankle pain and my lower back pain. So bring on the start of W5 tomorrow!

Oh great stuff. You have to post a picture of new running shoes. It's the law hereabouts!

Good luck with your run tomorrow!

Ok, I'll try and get a decent one ;-)

Well done for being brave and hope the new trainers/insoles combo sorts out your issues, it certainly sounds like they might. Good luck.

Whats DW sports?

It's a sports shop. Given DW stands for Dave Whelan (wigan athletics fc) it might be a northern shop....

Thanks Sezza2u! You've proved once and for all that gait analysis is both effective and does not 'force' you into buying a £100 pair of trainers. £34!! Bargain!

Excellent plan!

If there's one think that's most likely to put you on the IC it's joint problems and those will never be helped if you have an uncorrected gait issue.

Quite a brave thing to do to request an analysis in the circumstances your describe but great that you did and hopefully you'll find everything more comfortable now. Oh and I hope you like your Asics - couldn't be without mine.

Wow - good job! Think I'm going to get one done for my next shoes. I know. I over pronate so it would be useful. I do wear stability shoes.
