Hi folks!

I've just started the c25k program today (05/04/2015). It's mainly due to a history of heart disease serving as a wake up-call to my 100+kg body, along with a "I have nothing to lose" attitude. I did my first session by getting a c25k app (5k runner) and I did 25 minutes of exercise. It felt tough (out of breath within one minute!) but it felt so satisfying afterwards. :)

My aunt suggested I use these forums; she said you folk on here are lovely! So yes, hope to stick round and hopefully I'll know you folks over the coming weeks!

We are lovely and you are very welcome!!! Well done on getting started.

This programme changes lives, so stick with it when it is tough. Repeat any runs that you can't complete and most importantly, run slowly, at a pace at which you can still talk intelligibly. Keep posting your progress and we will cheer you on and you will have a permanent record of your transformation into a runner.

Good luck.

Woohoo, glad to see you took my advice :D You will be fine, and just follow the podcasts, and don't rush things.

Welcome. You've already done the hardest bit by taking that first step outside the door. Take it nice and slow and steady and you will be fine.

Hi. Good advice from your aunt. What you have here is a bunch of folks who are either going through or who have gone through the same programme. We have no prejudices and no desire than to do anything else but to cheer eachother on. If you want to change your life, then if you put in the effort, you've come to the right place.

As others have said, take it easy now. It's never a race until you want to make it one and one day, you just might. But not today. Make a point of reading other's posts, they are inspiring beyond all belief, but they are very, very real. Good luck and may the wind be at your back!

Welcome to the start of a wonderful program. As the others have sais, take it slowly. Listen to Laura and do as she says. Laura is the lovely lady on the podcasts :)

I am a starter too, well a slow starter really as I repeat the weeks until I can cope. Doing week 4 now and find it hard but getting there. I am 68, sedentary and used to be classified as obese, now in the low overweight range. I find it hard to have to wait for a day rest in between. For some reason I just want to go out there and run but I listen to Laura and wait and mop until I can have another go. Although I am still at week 4, I am very proud of myself and you should be too. Good on you and get out there.

Just checking... is it the NHS version you are using? That's what the vast majority of us here use, either in podcast form or app. My vote is for the podcast every time - one way or another the music is a motivator and it means that when you've graduated, you have something new to move onto.
