Went out this evening with the intention of just running 30 minutes without stopping. I'd gone out too fast the last few times (even with the Garmin on!) and burnt out by about 20/25 minutes. I took a bit of a longer route than usual to mix it up and tried to keep it nice, easy and sloooooooow.
Got to 10 minutes without really noticing, then by 20 I was feeling pretty good and decided to try and keep it going past 30 minutes if I could.
(BTW - why is it you always feel unbeatable once you're midway through the run? If I set out to do 5k tonight I'd have felt crap about it all the way round and doubted I could ever do it)
Decided to try and go for the 5k once I managed 30 minutes and finally covered 3.3 miles in 40 minutes, with a new 5k PD of 37:40! Feels amazing that I've finally covered the distance! Obviously must have got the pacing right too as had negative km splits for each of the 5.
So chuffed that I had to share!!!

That's fantastic, seems you have got the pacing right. I agree about the mid-run mindset. Once you're in the groove, everything feels so much more achievable!
Good one. It feels good when you manage your first 5K, doesn't it? On week 1 when you are running for a minute then walking for a minute the thought of running for 5K seems to be an impossibility. It's amazing how we change our mindsets.
Well done! In fact, I was so inspired by your post that I went out on my early morning run today determined to run negative splits myself: 6:30/6:23/6:14/5:33/5:23 for 30:06 overall and the fastest 5k I've done for a few months!
I n case you're wondering, I didn't cheat on the first two, they are largely uphill!
