Should I ?

Having complete week 6 , I then put my back out ( have slipped a disc in the past) was so annoyed I could not run week 7. I have been running 10 mins no stopping about twice a week for last couple of weeks to keep motivated and would you believe it helps with the back pain. Ran a mile on Sunday ..slow jog ..it not about speed with me ! . I would love to hear advice from other joggers with back problems, I want to start my week 7 next week ..am I making a mistake ? I couldn't run at all when I started this, so feel like I am making progress, just don't want to undo all training already completed. Any advise or tips much appreciated . Thanks

One of the reasons I started this programme was to help lower back pain which it does. However I didn't have a slipped disc. I know that physios and chiropractors suggest movement rather than inactivity for back pain now and it sounds as if your back is coping well with the running, but I'd suggest you ask your doctor or physio just for peace of mind.

You might also want to consider doing pilates for strengthening the core which supports the back and is also a great complement to running.

Doc says ok to run so going to start week 7 next week. I have had physio and find that also helps, plus I workout with a trainer ..who is being gentle with me at the moment !

Brilliant news! It sounds as if you're in great hands!

If your doc says it's ok to do, I would agree with Irishprincess about going to pilates.

I too have herniated disc - disc 5. I haven't had so much as a twinge out of it since I started running... it might be coincidence, but I would have expected at least 2 episodes in that time it usually goes about twice a year,..My osteopath recommended swimming but it didn't seem to help. I don't know what he thinks about running as I haven't seen him for ages!

Don't run again until it's "gone back", you probably can't anyway if it's like mine..listen to your body, it'll tell you if it doesn't like running. xx

I just completed a mile run, so going to start week 7 next week and see how it goes. The back is not too bad and I will take it easy and hopefully will be back on track with the programme .
