Hi , I had a niggly ankle when I started, it used to puff up the next day , it looked like an elephants foot :-)

I used to put a ice pack on it, and Ibuprofen Gel or a tablet before I went to bed. Take a few extra rest days too , oh and I got a support bandage from Poundland and wore that whilst running. I dont suffer with it at all now , it just went away one day and never came back.

I wouldnt worry too much, but best not to run on it whilst it is swollen. I know it is frustrating for you and you just want to get out there , but a coupla days extra rest wont affect your fitness levels and what you have accomplished so far .

I wish you a speedy recovery ! xxx

I continued running through a niggly pain in my ankle and it got worse - to the point where I'd get a very sharp pain when I walked on it. Not all the time, but it was enough to send me to a sports physio (after a few months...). Took quite a long time to sort out and the treatment was painful and added up to quite a lot (no NHS here - each session was a reasonable price, but it adds up when you need about 20 sessions!!).

My advice - get it checked out. Better to miss one week of running now (or a bit more) than 3 months if you keep doing damage.

Don't want to scare you, but there's "running through pain" and doing yourself damage. It could be that you just need to rest up for a short time and do some ankle strengthening exercises - and of course it could be your shoes.

Thanks guys! More rest I think is very wise :) maybe get it checked out this week if it's no better.....not a patient patient !

It does sound like rest is the right thing. Aches and stiffness fine, swelling and /or pain not fine. I hope you recover soon, you must be longing to get on with the programme.
