Running socks

I have never thought about running socks. I have my proper good running shoes but do the socks REALLY make a difference?

I have a couple of nice wool running socks for winter running. I have to say they are wonderful for the winter - my regular wool socks wouldn't fit in the running shoes, and regular thin socks were making my feet freeze. They were expensive, but worth it to keep me running outdoors all winter.

You wouldn't think it would make much difference but I was given a pair of Nike elite cushion socks and they are just fab. They grip the feet and seem to really support them - wouldn't use anything else now. Pleased to say I have never had a single blister.

I suffer from blisters usually but simce I started using running socks I haven't had any. You can get 2 pairs for about £5 in Sports D. I wouldn't be without mine now

I got mine in Aldi, they were 3 pairs for about £2.50. Yes they do make a difference, like running with marshmallows on your feet, where as ordinary socks feel like an old mans string vest in your shoe! My only complaint is that they are really short, don't even cover my ankle so not very warm Never mind, Spring's coming!

I used to get regular blisters with bog standard cotton socks. After switching to 1000 mile socks I've not had a single one. I've probably done about 800km in my latest pair and they're as good as new.

I thought they were a big money making myth - how wrong. I suffered with really bad shin splints in weeks 1 & 2. During week 3 when I thought they should be getting better I was close to giving up due to the pain every time I put my foot down. They were even hurting when I walked. My husband bought me some running socks. They made a difference from the first time I used them. They grip your feet and keep them in check. They also cushion in the right places so made my shin splints bearable. I haven't run without them since. They are now looking a bit sad being washed and worn 3 times a week and I think I will buy some more this week. I didn't even buy expensive ones. Mine were from Tesco.

I don't even know what running socks are - what's the definition? My running relatives don't wear them. I do run in different socks to my everyday socks but that's more because I get calf deep in boggy puddles and don't want to spoil my colourful socks.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I must be lucky as I have never had blisters, but I think I will try them to see the difference.

Also a running sock convert :-).

They're a must and reasonable price from good ole SD

I invested in the Nike elite socks. Shaped to fit, different left from right, cushioning, compression, wicking. They are so good I want some more to use when walking!

I tried to run without socks but prefer socks i have to say. Lidl running socks are top as are marathon socks from SD. These are pricey though. THeir karrimor ones are thick and make my feet too hot. Good when the weather is below zero

Ive often wondered about this myself. I have always run in my "normal socks ". I have loads of pairs I wear with trousers and boots. Never had a single blister ....

I do have some "proper " running socks that I got from Decathlon in the sale, and they do look more the part rather than having socks with Winnie the Pooh and pugs on ha ha :-)

Cant tell much difference between them to be honest :-) xxx
