Can anyone recommend decent running ankle socks, went out for a run yesterday, it was a slightly longer run than i normally do and for the last mile had discomfort on both heals, think mixture of socks and trainer rubbing.

Balega socks are good, mind you I have to wear rubbery bunion protectors that hook over my big toe ( otherwise the blisters are horrendous! ) . I find these socks accommodate my freakish feet ☺

I just use the basic Decathlon running socks but I wonder if the problem might be more your shoes?

I have the Karrimor ankle socks, they have a lip thing at the back which stops them slipping down. Always find them really comfortable, they come in a pack of 2 or 3 I think from Sports Direct.

thank you all i'm looking into getting new running shoes as well, the ones i have are fine when doing 3 or 4 miles but did 7.5 yesterday (trying to increase steadily for GNR) and it's the first time i've felt discomfort tbh

I have Hilly Running Socks. They are excellent. I have 4 pairs of them for the past 2 years and they are like new. Wash really well. And are excellent at protecting against blisters.

I also have some Hilly ones. Mine are double layer ankle socks. I think the idea is that if there’s slippage, it’s between the layers, not on your feet. I like mine!

I have some SealSkinz that were going cheap at Go Outdoors. They help to keep the wet out from rain or damp grass

Thank you everyone, my hubby checked my running shoes and noticed that I'd actually worn through the padding at the back on both shoes, i think that is what caused the pain, obviously friction rubbing against the hard plastic bit.

Going for gait analysis on Sunday and hopefully get some new shoes, this will be my 1st pair off proper running shoes, just bough Karrimor last year when started running as didn't want to pay loads and find i only ran few times, but been running 3 times a week and training now for Great North Run.

Not what you're looking for?
