Rain!

I must say I've been so lucky not to run in rain for 7 weeks. Well last night it was raining, when usually I hide in the house I put on my running shoes and completed W8R1. What a buzz I love running in the rain, no idea why I I've always hid from it, it's not like it can hurt me haha!

I think we all like running in the rain. It's such a relief! Phew. Steam rising off us. LOL

Hey well done you! I don't mind a bit of drizzle but I find RAIN really annoying - good for you for getting out there :)

Just 5 more runs to go for us now! :)

Nearly there...

Thanks Atomic, I know we are soooo close! I found it really difficult just to go out the door without an umbrella, I don't think I would have got far ;)

That made me giggle - thinking about you running down the road with a brolly in your hand!

I waited for the rain to stop this morning. To date I've only run in drizzle, but it was pelting down at my normal run time. Running later meant that I had to keep stopping to let cars go past me which was a pain. Some drivers are so rude -I moved to the grass verge and jogged on the spot and not even an acknoeledgement from about 15 cars. Hurrumph.

I ran in the rain this morning and it was absolutely hammering it down. I was doing a tempo run so it was a.) shorter and b.) I was going a lot faster than normal so warmed up quicker. It was quite invigorating, but I quickly made the discovery that my lightweight rain jacket is not actually in any way waterproof, and ceases to be particularly lightweight once it has taken on a significant amount of water.

I have tried Gore Tex (Paklite and 3 layer) as well as Event and Neoshell. They all wet out eventually and the DWR never seems to last that long - even when re-proofed with Graingers or Nikwax.

I now despair at what the word 'waterproof' must mean to the marketing bods that sell this stuff, as it clearly has a different meaning to what I understand it to be!

I have properly waterproof Barbour jackets which keep me dry in the most inclement of weathers while out shooting or wading through oomska in the pigpens in the worst of winters. Just not ideally suited to running in.

Oh dear and I was considering purchasing a waterproof running jacket for my graduation :(

IMHO you would be better to accept the fact that you will get a bit wet and just buy a 'reasonably' priced jacket with hi-vis strips.

My lightweight Rab Event jacket was around £270, it is supposed to be far more breathable that the top-spec Gore Tex, but still isn't waterproof. As soon as the fabrics wet-out, they don't breath any more, so you end up soaked in sweat anyway.

Could always just cut a head and arm holes in a bin bag?

Absolutely! I use a Musto Keepers jacket for shooting/beating but it weighs a ton so couldn't wear it for running. It is bad enough just walking across the plough.

I don't mind running in rain when it's nice weather, but I do worry about when winter comes - somehow I don't think it's equally invigorating and refreshing and lovely when the rain is colder than water from the fridge.

That's a good point, maybe a bit of treadmill running will be in order for winter for me.

It's great isn't it?

I began this in April. so haven't experienced much bad rain or inclement weather yet, so not sure how I'll cope! I've ceased the opportunity to do a bit of retail therapy and have acquired a nice selection of longer sleeved high vis tops and flashing light arm bands. I'm sure there's more to do!

You're nearly there now - good luck.

:) xx
