Cross training...

On a day like today in SW London how could you NOT cross train? :)

24km on the bike from Richmond to Hampton Court and back... cheeky pint at the end of the journey at the Boater's Inn in Kingston and then home to a BBQ... perfect...

Long run tomorrow - 13K... speak soon people. Have a wonderful weekend running, walking, biking and relaxing... Enjoy it!

What did you do before you went keep fit mad? Are there any friends or family members who are being neglected? I'm all for this running lark, but you post something every day, wherever you are in the world and ... if I were your wife I would be missing you! I noticed she has expressed an interest in learning to run ... no surprise, I expect it's the only time she can pin you down to discuss who's doing the supermarket shop this week!!! My husband is a workaholic and spends a lot of time in strange foreign places. We've discovered that the only time we really talk and listen to each other is on long car journeys - so many plans get made on the road! Fortunately we are caravanners, so there are plenty of long journeys to be had when he's back in Blighty!!!

Wife and kids are sitting on a beach in the south of Italy right now so I can get away with it during the day... When they're back it's early morning runs before they're up or a run just after the school drop off... Or of course running while I'm away for work...

When you think about it, it's usually only 30 minutes or so twice a week Mon - Fri and then I'm out for a longer session on a Sunday morning for under 2 hours... If I leave by 7:30am I'll be home before 9:30am... Just in time to help make the kids breakfast usually!

As for cross training days like these - I'll just get the kids out with me and take it slow... :) I love keeping fit, but honestly it only need take a little slice out of the day... and although I've got a target to aim for I don't do it at the expense of quality time at home (hence I go early when I can)... I like to think it supplements it as I'm a super-fit Dad now... :)

As my mate said the other day - "If you've got time to update Facebook you've got time to run"... :)

Ah I see - you've got what my old boss called a 'pink ticket' and you can play while the family are elsewhere, hence the long rides, runs and sneaky pint!

You're right, the half hour runs are easy to fit round the family - like you, I go early morning (though as my family are pretty self sufficient I have a great deal of 'me time' so I could do it any time of day really - that will be good when the mornings and evenings are dark and dreek ...).

I've been trying to get my 15 yr old lad to do C25K, but he is joined at the hip to his computer/ps3/ipad/phone so is proving difficult to motivate. My main nag at the moment is summer school work (as he was not achieving predicted grades), so once school's back in September I shall recommence my attack. He is very proud of what I've done so far (Wk6) and can see how it is benefitting me physically and emotionally (which definitely benefits him as I am less grouchy) so I may have a running partner then.

My husband is a lost cause! As a young man, he ran the London Marathon (the first one I think) and did lots of serious long walks with his dad, but over the last 30 years he has become a workaholic with a sizeable red-wine-belly ... well, just a bit cuddly really! Maybe when he retires he'll come and play outside with me!

Enjoy your holiday!

Your posts make me miss living in greater London

Keep enjoying it!

And as for "how could you not"... when you're sat at home putting spreadsheets together that the boss wants by Monday morning :(

Oh - been there... (I'm a consultant so it's usually Powerpoint instead)... I'm on annual leave now and the wife and kids are away... :)

Oh - once we start posting the pictures where you can't see anything because it is dark, wet AND cold you'll feel more at home... :)

Love the pic aussie! Makes me want to go and buy another bike! Is your cycling off road? The roads put me off a bit but maybe I could invest in a bike rack too and go off and find a cycle route somewhere quiet. Enjoy your long run tomorrow. My hubby loves it when I go away on holiday with kids/friends, I don't take it personally x :-D
