Boooo! Right leg is sore and I've got this sciatic thing going off when I extend it. Using Ibuprofen gel and Deep Heat but I'm stalled at Week 8 having completed run one on Monday. FRUSTRATED!!! And really want to go on and finish but I know it's not sensible to do so.
Can't run.: Boooo! Right leg is sore and I've... - Couch to 5K
Can't run.
Although it's frustration you're doing the right thing in listening to your body. I'm out of action at the moment with a badly strained calf and a back that's in spasm, so I share your frustration
I'm sure the sensible advice is to hang fire till you're recovered. And then you might have to repeat a run or whole week before moving on.
But be patient and you'll get your reward in the end
I took an extra rest day today too - similar issue - sciatic/hip pain - driving me mad cos it would have been a perfect morning to start Week 9, but I'm being sensible. You know it's the right thing to do
I feel your pain! Please listen to your body and rest - I thought I knew better and carried on running using pain killers and gel to get me through. Big mistake! I have been out of action now for over 4 weeks and have had physio twice a week. Its really not worth it!
Thanks for the support folks....will rest until weekend and then see how it is :0)
Sorry to Hearing your bad luck. I am not the proper example for your help. But I had to stop already last year because of the same reason (I only did week 3 to the end). I saw my Osteopath several times and it didn't solve the Problem. Now I am in the same Praxis with a physiotherapist. The idea is now to Train the muscles by Special exercises, which I don't use enough. They think I have the Problem because I do too many movements in the same way (work) and the other muscles aren't used enough anymore. If this helps solving your Problem, best wishes. flowerarranger
Oh dear, much sympathy. Running is tough on the body and it finds out our weak spots. I've had numerous hiccups and have found visits to the osteopath and some physiotherapy plus a running gait analysis and a change of shoes have all helped. Plus I've learnt to rest when I need to and not to get too upset about losing fitness because surprisingly, a few weeks off isn't as much of a problem as you might think.
Sciatica suggests a lower back problem so you might want to see a professional if it doesn't clear up. All the best.
I think rest and Ibufren will probably work. This running lark does take its toll on us if we're fresh off the couch, and it catches up with us. We have to get stronger to support our running bodies, so when you're back out there you might try doing more in the way of other exercises, if you're not already doing so.
Good luck. Let us know how you're getting on
My problem is gadually clearing up. I can stretch my leg without discomfort but if I move in a certain way i get a twinge. so i'm not going to run until its disappeared completely. The Deep Heat has done its job even thpugh i smell like a chemical factory. Thanks for your support. Maybe Sunday/ Monday before I continue.
Glad things are clearing up. Don't run till it is completely resolved, and start with walking only sessions to test it out before starting running again. Good luck!
