Who really would have /could have thought that, 6 months after I took my first tentative running steps as an overweight 67 year old man, I would be driving down to Sydney tomorrow to run in this icon "race".

google.com.au/search?q=sydn... I have put the word "race" in inverted commas - because for many it is indeed a race (especially the 12 runners who are at the front of the starting line "by invitation only") but for most it is a funrun :)

AND then!!! - to be going on a short cruise to New Caledonia google.com.au/search?q=new+... on a ship which will be having another of these BIGGEST BOOTCAMP AT SEA events onboard youtube.com/watch?v=cPYNgr0... ( purely coincidental ,by the way!! )

I read that we ( athletes, that is :) ) should take a week off every now and then - and even a month off every now and then - and I think I am looking forward to not hitting the pavements for a couple of weeks - I am intending to have a play around with the ship's gym treadmills, but nothing too serious. I have to admit to losing a bit of my mojo lately -- I think it is the cold weather here, in summer I can at least run before dawn and beat the sun and the heat of the day, but I have largely lost interest in running during the day now, in winter, while waiting waiting for it to warm up a little.

For those beginners here who have any doubts about themselves -- just keep going forwards, but don't look ahead - keep looking back to where you have come from until you will become like me - so far from the starting line now that I can't really see where it was . :) -- the NEW ME and the NEW YOU!!!!!!

Best of luck for the race. Do let us know how it goes if you have time to do so before your well deserved holiday. Use it as an opportunity to get some r&r in. You may find that helps bring your mojo back.

Good luck Bazza. You've come such a long way in the last 6 months. Enjoy your 'race' and then enjoy kicking off your running shoes and having a little break to recharge your batteries. Happy running and happy holiday :)

Good luck Bazza, I had a look at your race route and it's a beautiful one, if challenging in places (I know Sydney and that hill on New South Head Road). You are brilliantly prepared and I've no doubt it will be an amazing experience. And have a fabulous holiday!
