Absolutely gutted.

Off I went down to my gp's. Armed with both my posters. Checked there was room and went to talk to the receptionist. I was wearing my healthunlocked tshirt and had my letter should I need it.

She took the posters and went to talk to the practice manager.

She then came back and said the Practice Manager said there was not enough room and they would not be interested in putting the posters up.

I am so gutted, why don't these people want to help. There are posters on there for people selling services. Ours is free and good for you.

I am not giving up. I am going to see if I can get a covering letter from NHS choices and send them again to the head doctor At The surgery.

Unbelievable!

You'd think they would be concerned with their patient's welfare....

Good on you for persisting.

That is too bad... makes you think that they don't want to lose clients if they get too healthy!

You might consider making a complaint or a written "I'm so sorry there seems to have been a misunderstanding...." letter - that's a very quick decision that has been made by someone who is not a health professional - and who may not have understood that this is a service that the NHS link to (I certainly found it from the NHS Choices website where I found C25K)

I am planning to post mine with a letter. An anonymous letter.

That's poor. I haven't done the healthunlocked poster yet as mine hasn't arrived but plan to. As part of my volunteer role with another charity I contact practice managers (usually by phone or email as I'm office based) to get our leaflets supplied and usually reaction is good so I'm surprised at this response. I'm also surprised they are displaying those selling services, that isn't usual in my experience, usually they interrogate me to ensure we definitely are a charity to screen out such stuff.

If you don't get anywhere with this practice perhaps try another.

What a disappointment, not the kind of response any of us are hoping for. I would definitely follow that up with either an appeal to one of the gp's, one of the nurses or a letter. It might be they just didn't take the time to read it properly and consider what the benefits might be...

That's ridiculous, it's promoted by the NHS. Good luck with trying again.

I don't understand surly they would be happy to put a poster about something that's free and promotes fitness. Like pigivi says maybe they don't want people healthy.

If you give me the surgery's phone number, I'll see if I can persuade them to put up the poster.

That's unbelievable? Doesn't she know it's an NHS sponsored programme?

That's terrible. Maybe we should go down to your surgery en masse and show them how unbelievably fit we all are! Seriously though, That's really bad. I hope my surgery is better.

Best of luck trying again. My surgery was exactly the same when I asked the Practice Manager to put the poster up and explained about the programme :-(

That's quite shocking! To think that someone who is an admin expert not a health expert can veto such a great cause. I think you're right to go over her head! Good luck

How odd, you'd think they would jump at the chance of some health promotion.....I thought we were all suppose to be actively taking control of our well being. Very short sighted of this particular Practice Manager.....I'm sure it's not a typical view. Very disappointing for you to have to encounter such an attitude.

No, no, no, this is excellent news!

It means they don't really know about or understand c25k or any of this community - this whole groundswell of people becoming active and fit.

Maybe they don't want to put it up in case they lose their punters (kidding).

So the battle of hearts and minds begins. You are the frontline!

Iannoda has done a covering letter RFC.

This reaction doesn't surprise me at all. I had the same thing when I asked for a A5 flyer to go up at our local GP's. It was for a local gardening therapy group. From the reaction I got you would have thought I was trying to start a lap dancing club on the NHS or sommat!

Don't be downhearted though. Try again and a phone call from The Editor might make em see reason

I think it would make me even more determined. Are these managers and receptionists merely accustomed to fending off all comers? Makes you wonder doesn't it.

The update.

The Editor has emailed the surgery and I am waiting for them to get in touch with me. Hopefully to say bring in The poster we made a mistake.

I will let you know how we get on.

Hmm, this sounds familiar. I teach tai chi and there's oodles of clinical evidence about the benefits for heart, mobility, stability, muscles strength, stroke recovery, wellbeing and so on. I took a small poster to a surgery where I was already running busy classes in the village hall next door. The receptionist refused to take the poster and flyers, saying they couldn't take anything that hadn't been specifically endorsed by the NHS. Grrrrr.
