Advice on decent running leggings please

PavementPounder profile image

I bought some leggings from amazon, they arrived today and they wouldn't fit a small child let alone me. Can anyone suggest a good brand which are the size they say they are? Or am I better off going and trying loads on?

Thank you!

Well I am a fan of nike - they fit me and the they have pockets and zips! Not the cheapest on the market but i struggle to find bottoms in trousers and jeans so i am pleased with them.

I love my Adidas capri pants. They've lasted me for years and are true to size. However they are pricey and only marginally better than the excellent value Karrimor ones. Karrimor ones also have a small zipped pocket for house key etc.

I bought Karrimor ones too. They were £7 and have been brilliant, good fit, handy back pocket, zips at the bottom. For a beginner I couldn't see much difference between these ones and Nike except about a £20 mark up.

I think the safest bet is to go and try them on, but if not the sports direct website has reviews where people will let you know if things are over/ under sized :)

My favourites are Nike capris. I think it's a good idea to try them on as they are all cut slightly differently. I use a running belt so not worried about pockets.

Ooh thanks everyone - there's an 80% sale on sports direct too!!

I've got some USA Pro capris from SD. Chose them before I started w1 because they were cheap and I've got no complaint at all. :)

I have got some Marks and Spencer 'View From' ones that must be at leat 15 years old and as good as new. ( Don't say that's because I haven't done any exercise in the last 15 years !!!)

I have Karrimor and Nike so I can compare the two. The Karrimor are thinnner and more wrinkly than the Nikes. The Nikes are more like neoprene and they are more figure hugging whereas my Karrimors are looser. I have just bought a second pair of Nike capris but I wouldn't buy another pair of Karrimors. My husband bought me the Karrimors and I wear them a lot but given the choice I would go with the Nikes every time

I tried on loads in all the sports shops but ended up buying a pair of Capri length from Sainsburys, liked them so much I went back and bought more!

Nike for me can get them on Amazon or Sports Direct at reasonable prices too.

I love this thread. There is a whole pile of people here who, like me wouldn't have heard of capri pants & all the other stuff mentioned a few months ago, and like me have a whole new vocabulary.

My preference is Karrimor, but best to go to a shop to try on if you can and then maybe buy online?

Another Nike vote from me, I have a couple of their capri pants in deferent designs, they are extremely comfortable....their sizing comes on the small size. I have an asics pair also, which are good, but my 'go to pair' are the Nikes.

I dont care for karrimor, they feel wrong on me, and are thin. Im going to try Nike I think , but then my cheapies from a little shop in town do the job, so maybe more from there at £5

guess its all down to prefernce

I think you really are better off trying them on in person, at least to start with. Karrimor are cheap and reasonably well made; I get mine from Sports Direct (although I hate myself for it).

There's excellent sportswear in Asda now and of course it's really low priced but very good quality. I've just picked up rather a lot of it!

I whole heartedly reccomend Ron Hill Tracksters. Not the most exciting item, but they are so well treid and tested....I love them.

Depending where you are, ie, if you are in the UK, try popping along to Go Outdoors (they seem to be springing up everywhere) and try some on. Cotswold probably do them as wilother outdoor shops.

You may hate them, but it may just be the start of a long and beautiful relationship. Mine has been going for 25 or so years with walking. I still have my slightly worn and baggy original pair somewhere.

as much as the name brands, i.e. Nike, Adidas, etc., seem over priced compared to just buying leggings - - I have found they are mostly worth it. Actual athletic gear makes me feel like an athlete! Unfortunately lots of it is made for skinny muscular people and when I first started running I was a fat Cancer patient, lol. So it didn't fit :(

I found this company called "outdoor voices" online that had some women who looked like they were my weight in their ads (in addition to the other types). Their clothes are what I would call "athleisure" like kinda better designed than fashion leggings, but not as well designed as Under Armour and New Balance clothes but at least came in sizes big enough to fit me! I always look for companies that are not afraid to use bigger models to show off their clothes. Because if all the models are small then probably their XL sizes are just ratio driven bigger versions and not actually designed for large people. Such clothes don't look as nice as something originally designed for a person my size.

I don't think it's necessary to try on loads. Find a brand that fits you and stick with them. Also keep in mind that some runners like to wear compression pants. Personally I really like them for long runs. They fit much tighter than normal running pants. I wouldn't wear them for any other reason EXCEPT I'm going out on a run. But for long runs they make all the difference. Other people wear compression sleeves or compression calf sleeves for the same purpose, it helps keep your blood from pooling in your lower extremities

it's important for me to have a place to put my keys when I run - so I tend to avoid brands that do not have any kind of zippered pocket. New Balance is better than most brands at having pockets in running shirts and pants but even they don't have pockets all the time. Almost everything on the Outdoor voices website has pockets.

I really love the Sugarpocket brand from Amazon, I found them to be true to size. They are good quality and not pricey. I have the shorts, capri and long versions :D Love the prints as well as I like running in funky colours and patterns.
