Quite possibly.
Woohoo I made it out and in the morning and during that time of the month.
I was moody yesterday complete approach with caution and cake mode. I must have been bad because Mr Mouse scampered off into town and came back with a Jamaican ginger cake, a golden syrup cake and a pack of four mars bars and dumped them all in my lap.
I haven't touched the mars bars or the golden syrup cake (yet) but my post run breakfast of Jamaican Ginger cake was awesome (not the whole thing just a slice).
Anyway I half thought that I might attempt a run this morning yesterday then I decided that was madness and proceeded to read until midnight. It's that time of the month, I don't run, I barely function, blood loss leads to dizzy and urgh and blurgh and (add string of naughty words). Only I am not feeling dizzy, I haven't even had to take my normal combination of meds to slow the blood loss and I've only taken one dose of pain meds. Whats going on? It has left me all confused I have been suffering abnormal periods for so long a normal one confuses me (and fills me with fear for next month) is the exercise and metformin combo actually getting my hormones to play nice and maybe work properly!? I have polycystic ovary syndrome, properly working hormones would be nice.
Anyway so this morning I wake up and my milepost quote really struck today:
"You've got to get up every morning with determination if you're going to go to bed with satisfaction" - George Lorimer
It's a fab app by the way do check it out.
So I decided to go for it, head out no fixed plan, short route if I felt rough long route if I felt ok.
Armed with battle dog and my 600ml water bottle off I went. No zombies today, no music, but I did have runkeeper tracking in my pocket.
It wasn't as early as I really wanted, already 8am and getting hot. It was peaceful. I'm not sure if I saw a pterodactyl or not but peace was shattered by a whole load of squawking. On we go. Ferd is having an awesome time swimming. I see the coots before Ferd and it's time for him to go back on his lead as we approach the section of the canal where the family of swans live. And I am still running. It's hot, it's hard but no where near as hard as the afternoon runs I've been trying. I stop to walk at the pre agreed walking points:
Down the steps from the bridge over the lock
Crossing the road at the other lock
Down the embankment from canal side to the shortcut to get to the other bit of trail
And today the bridge over the river Erewash was added as I wanted Ferd to not feel rushed, it was getting hot and I wanted him to have a nice cooling swim.
There were of course other walking bits a few seconds here and there to deal with dog related stuff, but no evil gremlin walks.
I make it to 5k, the last bit was in full sun it's hot, I find a little shade and I know the next section is in full sun so I decide to walk for a couple a minutes a chance to rest in the shade and drink. The last bit I do as a mixture of run walk and I get my furthest distance yet. I am really proud of myself. My pace was around 8.20 min/km until I hit about the 4k mark when I started to get slower as it started to get hotter. I am happy I was out there doing it. My aim is to run a little further each 'long' run, and to eventually run the whole distance.
6.73km
1.01.37 (hr.min.sec)
9.09 min/km average pace
No zombies today.
I think I need to work out a 10k loop.
