Lurker unlurking to post that I completed week 5 run 1.

I have been reading posts on this board since I started the program about 4 weeks ago.The posts have provided inspiration and chuckles. I thought that it was about time that I should contribute since I am now somewhat (fairly) confident that I will make it through.

I'm a 52 year old woman from Montreal Canada. My almost 14 year old son is athletic (enrolled in a school ice hockey program, works out etc.) and is somewhat encouraging (might run a 5k with me).

Yesterday, I was feeling a total lack of motivation and kept putting my run off despite the fact that I had the house to myself, no commitments and it was a pleasant day of 18 degrees Celsius.

I finally dragged my butt out at about 6:30 pm after spending most of the afternoon giving myself reasons why I shouldn't run - too many people out (heaven forbid they might look at me), I wouldn't be able to do the 3 five minute runs amongst others.

I am so glad I pushed myself to do the run. There weren't too many people out; as they were having BBQ s for Father's Day and the ones out, barely glanced at me. The weather was perfect. I completed the run and felt great even though the Laura podcast died on me and I had to keep looking at runkeeper to figure out when to walk and when to run. I didn't want to restart or mess with any of my apps, so I just kept going. I missed both the music and Laura's encouraging voice, but did the run anyways. I now know that I prefer running with music.

I think that from now on I'll set the intervals on runkeeper and play some running playlists to avoid issues in the future.

Thanks for all the reading opportunities, I hope to contribute more in the future.

Hi there! I think we are all a bit self conscious when we first start, especially when we first venture out in new trainers, leggings etc. I am a lot more confident now and quite happy running in public so to speak. Happy running.

It's often the way that when we don't particularly want to run, hen those runs are the best. Have you tried using the c25k podcasts rather than the app? There's no way lovely Laura could disappear from the podcasts unless your battery died. Good luck for the rest of week 5 and happy running :)

Thanks for all the welcome wishes. I was using podcasts but must have touched the wrong spot on my phone screen. Might try again.

Congrats on not giving in to excuses. I find the hardest bit is getting out of the door after that I am commited.

I also just finished W5R1 last night so its nice to see someone else in the same region as me, hopefully we both get through this evil looking week unscathed :)

Hey! I'm with ya sista (and fellow 50-something Canadian). I did w5r1 yesterday too. It was tough, but I did it. Looking forward to Wednesday to do the 8-minute runs. Even tougher. I'm rather nervous about it, but I'm trying to psych myself up for it! If I did five, I can do eight, right? Good luck! We're in this together. :-)

It's nice to know others are at the same spot! We can celebrate our successes together. Here's to finishing week 5 this week. I'll be doing run 2 today. Good luckfor run 2 to both of you!

Yay! I did it! W5r2 completed! I think it was even a tad easier than the three 5-minute runs on Monday. Twenty minutes coming up on Friday. Can we do it? Yes, we can!
