The Aussie210K starts tomorrow...

Couldn't have said it better myself. We are all runners... and we run because we can...

So - tomorrow is my 42nd birthday (21 all over again) and to celebrate I'm planning an early morning 30 minute run and my first run in what I have now decided is the "Aussie210K 7 Week Plan"!

As most of you know, I have entered a 10K race on the 26th July and although I'm not in it to race, I want to be able to finish in around an hour (anything under 1hr 10m would be awesome) and this is purely a personal goal based on my current 5K times and your mileage will vary..

You can see my Aussie210K plan here - secure.logmein.com/f?00_SAx...

It's a mashup (as the kids say) of B210K, the BUPA beginner plan and a sprinkling of awesome advice from fellow C25Kers... It's going to be quite an interesting 7 weeks I'm sure and the challenge of a 10K isn't something I take lightly so I'm aiming to be able to finish it in one piece. I recognise now (thank you lovely people) that over training would do more harm than good and that once my first 10K is out of the way then I have a marker for next time (much like Parkrun provides for 5K) if I'm ever mad enough to try it again.

I know some readers get worried and hung up reading about statistics, times, distances and the like and although I use these purely for myself as measures of improvement and I do like to share my success, I'm going to try to keep my updates a little "light on stats" (although I'm hoping for a Garmin 620 tomorrow!) and update you all on "runs completed" and "lessons learned". I will probably end up doing some interval and speed work somewhere in here and I'll change and update my little plan as I go (just in case anyone else is mad enough to try it out!). I will be posting up any Parkrun times though (as I'm hoping they'll all be PBs)... Of course my 10K time will be posted along with a glorious photo of me collapsing at the finish line. Dan - I salute you for being able to even raise your arms and a smile at the end of 10K! :)

Wish me well people..... I still can't believe I'm doing this!

Good luck ;o) Stats please, there are also many fellow c25k'ers who love stats ;o)

Haha... okay, okay... I tell you what, if my kids cough up the Forerunner 620 tomorrow I'll have more stats than I'll ever know what to do with... I'll link away to Garmin Connect and you can go crazy analysing my running style, speed and cadence... :) <no pressure kids>

Nice one ;o) I'm probably getting the 620 myself (as a present to myself for completing the c25k) and the amount of stats available using the 620 and Garmin Connect looks amazing ;o)

That's the difference between men and women in a nutshell! You all want 620s whereas I'd be delighted with a Forerunner10 and spend days agonising about which colour ;)

Lol. Got it in a nutshell :)

I did laugh whilst reading your comment, it is so, so true, most men love a gadget and all that those things entail....in fact my husband loves most gadget things so much that my friends call him Mr Gadget!

I too would love a Forerunner10 or 15, I keep gazing at the colours....I think it has to be pink! I have another 5 runs to go before graduating, I'm hoping to complete it before my birthday (51) on the 24th. I shall have to drop some heavy hints to the other half.

Sorry, I'd rather have the stats - but then I am a female physics teacher. To be fair though, if you could have the stats AND small (my wrists are tiny) AND pink I'd probably cough up...

Stats AND small and a pretty colour- now what more could a girl want. I'm an ex-biochemist- and whilst you can take the girl out of science, you can't take the science out of the girl, so I do love a good graph or two or three......... :)

Happy birthday for tomorrow Aussie and very best of luck with the Aussie210k plan. Keep posting and do include the stats too (I'm the wrong gender and age group to compete with you, so I'll just be proud of a fellow C25k-ers achievements) :)

I don't understand all the stats, and as soon as anyone starts talking about negative splits, I'm off. The very mention of the word "accounts" has me snoring

I know that men like numbers so I don't begrudge em their chat about lap times and stuff. I wish you all the very best with your running plan Aussie, but be aware that best laid plans of mice and men, sorta thing, and if it does go awry then you might have to do some tweaking

I have a race before you on 6th July and am bricking it at the moment as I have read somewhere that the first five miles are uphill rising to 1000 feet. Oh eck!

I am on Garmin connect Aussie, does that mean I can look over your shoulder then ?

in reply to misswobble

Right - so - negative splits... let me explain... <zzzzzzzzzzz> :)

Oh there will be much tweaking I'm sure and I'll let you lovely lot know what worked and what didn't work so well. I do like an adventure..

Garmin Connect buddies? Virtual Pacers? Ooo... I've been a good boy, don't let me down tomorrow kids... :)

Have a lovely birthday tomorrow, fingers crossed for you for the Garmin! Your plan sounds good, I am sure you will be fine with your 10k and you have time to tweak a bit if need be. Post away! I did my first 10k race on Sunday, running was ok but I needed a strategy to deal with the heat! x

Hi Aussie, completed my C25K back in March and decided to up my game to 10k and came across this thread. I clicked on the link for your 10k plan above and it said that the link had expired. Is there another link as I would be interested in looking at what you have planned? I've started the Bluefin Bridge 2 10k plan (just finished W2R1), but would be interested to see how others are doing it.

Thanks

in reply to SJN2K

Try again! :) I have had to modify it due to injury (all good now) but have a look at what I'd originally planned...

Have fun! Go slow and steady and don't ramp up too quick!
