I strained my calf muscle ten days ago, I haven't run and I'm avoiding anything other than every movements. Just as I think its improving, I move or twist and ..bang masive pain in it again. Very frustrating. Does anyone have any experience of this or any advice to speed up its recovery? I'm so miffed that I'm missing my running and conscious of have to go all the way back to the beginning again.

I think you have to be patient and give it chance to heal. These things can take a while. I know it's frustrating but you have to take care of it. Are you allowed to do any gentle stretches?

Hi there! I ruptured a calf muscle a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to have a couple of ultrasound/massage sessions with a physio. I also tried wearing tubigrip to compress the area. That, combined with a couple of weeks rest and gentle walking seems to have done the trick. Hope you improve soon....

I'm so glad someone else posted on this - I did the same last night while out running and it's soooo painful. I'm almost halfway through my half marathon training and I don't have any leeway for taking a break so am now worrying about how soon I'll be able to go out again and what to do in the meantime. I can't believe it'll be a couple of weeks, that'll really mess me up! Thinking I might seek out a sports physio too to see if that speeds thing up. Good luck for a speedy recovery!

Quick update as this may help someone. I went swimming and was amazed at how it helped my calf. I'm now two weeks afyer first injuring it and the pain is almost gone. Might a light jog this week! X
