I've only got to W1R2, but on both my rest days it has felt like my heart was sore, is this possible or likely to be intercostal muscles aching? I'm a bit scared that I'm pushing my heart too hard!

Sore chest day after run?
It could be you are just not used to exercise but you could speak to your doctor and get him or her to give you the ok. He or she should take your BP, weight, listen to your chest and heart. It cannot hurt and will give you a good measure for how much fitter and healthier you become xxx
I'm certainly not used to running - I've always hated it! I have been doing 30mins brisk walking most days for several weeks prior to starting C25K. I am actually under the care of a cardiologist because I had slightly high cholesterol and they found 40% soft plaque in an artery. However, in the hospital I had to do an exercise stress test and that didn't show any problems at all. My BP has always been good (last one 121/76). I have also lost 35lbs since January. I do have health anxiety now though, so I have to wonder whether it is just fear feeding my concerns.
Did you check woth your docs that it's ok to exercise? And yes it could be worry, of course. My other suggestions would be that if docs say it's ok, show them the plan as they may have other ideas for you, the other would be to half the running time for 1 week so only do 30 secs of running then the next week do 60. Take 2 days rest between run days but do walk on rest days. Also, when you run, take it really easy, steady and slow. If you experience any chest pain you should stop.
I really wish u all the best in your efforts to a new healthy you xxx
I'm not experiencing any pain in my chest when actually running, I do find it hard work, but then we are meant to - no?! I have finished all the runs (apart from 10 sconds on the first day). Yesterday was easier, and my husband said I seemed less grunty after each run (haha!). Today I have very little muscle pain, whereas the day after the first day I felt very stiff and sore. I would say the soreness in my chest is more apparent when I breathe in deeply, but just on the left hand side. I have to exercise to prevent the plaque getting worse, and with any luck regress it somewhat.
Of course going for a check- up with the doctor is a good idea if you are worried. But have you tried poking yourself between the ribs and around the sternum. If you can find the place that hurts, and I think it quite likely you can, you might well have found your answer.
If it hurts on deep breathing later on, i would say it is the intercostals. That it is worse on the left though, sounds odd.
I think you should go and get checked out by your doctor and follow any advice he gives you.
GOOD LUCK, and let us know how you got on.
I'm just about to go onto week 3 and feel pressure on my upper chest after running. I'm due to go to the doctors anyway so will mention it. However, it's also occurred to me that I might need a more supportive bra. Also my posture has improved since I started running and maybe standing up straighter is using different muscles.
