First off, congrats for finishing it! I just did the same run yesterday and also had times of feeling like giving up. But kept going, which is the point of the program, I suppose! I agree with Laura's comments in the podcast that the challenge is more mental at this point that physical. I find myself thinking "Yes....my legs and arms can continue to move this way, but why would I want to?" And then I remind myself I'm on a program so that's what needs to happen. I'm curious to see what happens week 6 (people have said it's harder than it looks). Good luck on your next run!

Well done for doing 20 minutes non stop. You never thought you'd do that in week one did you?! The whole point of this programme is to push and push you to running 30 minutes. It's never going to get easy because you're pushing yourself week on week. I never enjoy a run but I do enjoy the amazing sense of achievement when it's done. Some runs are hell and some are easier but each run is another coin in the health piggy bank and contributes to the feel good factor. Keep going, your body and mind will thank you!

I have just finished wk 8 and I can confirm it is hard wk 6 but it is doable, trust the plan. I have also come to the realisation that it is not going to get easier if I want to continue getting fitter and improve. It is always going to be tough but so worthwhile.

3 days ago, I ran the full 5K in 35 minutes non-stop!!

This morning, I had to run 6K using a 2min/1.5min run/walk ratio. I never thought the 2 minute segments were going to end!! They seemed longer than the 35 minute run . Certainly, every run is different - I think I just wasn't "in the mood" today :(

I feel a bit of a fraud replying as I haven't actually done this programme. I intended to but as I have been using a personal trainer at a gym I have been following his plan. He always tells me it's meant to be hard but the sense of achievement is worth it. I'm sure if you look back over your progress you can see how far you have come and week 6 will just be a hurdle that you can overcome. Good luck xx

Well done on completing week 5 - this is the real turning point in the programme - that 20 minute run. Good luck with week 6 - there is no need to dread it, just take it as it comes. The reason it appears so tough is that after a straight 20 minute run at the end of week 5 (and you're thinking 'yippee I can run now') you are back to intervals for the first two runs of week 6. This gives the impression that it's going to be quite easy after that 20 minute run from week 5 - not so, intervals can be tough. Once you've done the last run of week 6, you are pretty much home and dry because it's straight runs from there on in. So, it's a case of be aware that W6 is no walkover, treat it with respect and that way you will avoid being caught out by it. Keep it very slow and steady. Good luck with the start of Week 6 and very best wishes.

Well done! I agree it always feels tough however you still did it! And you will be able to do week 6. My mind always tells me to stop when my body can definitely do it after all the weeks so far. I just finished week 6 and found the first 2 runs quite hard but the 3rd was okay and I felt so great after! When my head tells me to stop I just picture how good I've felt all the previous times I've completed a run and hold on to that! I've also pictured posting on here to day have done it and that helps too!

You will be fine for week 6, just take it easy and don't run too fast/take it easy and you will get there!

Please stick with it Mrs B. You won't regret it. You'll get fitter with each walk/run session. Honest you will. You just have to believe it

Agree with the good advice from others on here . I remember when I started to do the longer runs and said to my non running husband ( who s very supportive) that I couldn't no I really couldn't do it . His reply was to just get on with it and to tell my head to run and the legs would follow !!! I won't tell you my actual thoughts but they were along the lines of ' what the *****' Anyway I thought I would give it a go and next run I kept repeating this mantra over and over in my head ......head run! body follow! Legs follow ! And do you know what it worked . I had to do it for quite a few weeks but then gradually stopped as legs seemed to get message . I think what I am saying is don't give up and accept you will meet hurdles at many stages in your running journey and just try different tips till you find the one that works for you So mrs b you are not allowed to give up Good luck
