LAST RUN OF THE WEEK.

Clad in skin tight blue lycra leggings, black T shirt, neon yellow long sleeved top and Brooks, I set off on a leisurely 7K this morning along the river Thames. I was trying out a new idea, as suggested by ChrisL on these forums and it was - to run intervals of 9 mins followed by a 1 min walk. I reached Richmond Bridge very comfortably which is 2K away from my house and the TIT (my timex ironman triathlon watch) beeped, alerting me to walk. This I did. A minute later, I pressed "start" on my TIT and ran for another 9 mins.......

The weather was clement, the air temp was lovely and I felt rather super for about 5K, but then I started to feel tired. I carried on with my interval plan regardless but wondered if I should have taken two days rest instead of just the one? I did a 10K two days ago and I think that may have tired me a tad. ANyway......I eventually reached my goal of 7K and Endomondo told me I'd done it in 41'48 - so about 10 seconds quicker than my usual time.

I'm not sure the interval running made a difference to my time, but it was kinda nice knowing that after 9 mins I'd have a recovery walk - (memories of me and Laura all that time ago as she cooed in my ear to stop and bloody walk for a bit!!). My body is a bit stiff after it though so I'm definitely NOT gonna run until at least tuesday. Maybe even Wednesday, so I give myself a dashed good rest!

So tomorrow, Mrs Dan and I are heading up to town to the London marathon. Our mate Lee is running it and of course our very own Health Unlocked SUZI-BENJ! I shall be cheering everyone on from wherever we end up! Mrs Dan has already made Super Salads for us for when we get peckish - how amazing is that?! I'm not that great with crowds, but I'm sure the sheer energy and goodwill from everyone will be palpable and I will forget my mild phobia!

So until we meet again on this forum they call.....er......a forum! And if you're watching the marathon on your tv's tomorrow and I see you all, I'll give you a big wave! Haha!

Happy running one and all!

well done...and you know often marathon runners have a walk every 15 mins...I always run using an 'interval stylie' Juicyju method. On a long run, I always do alternate fast and slow k's ( its all in the mind really!!!). Have fun tomorrow at the marathon, I'll wave at the tele!!!

Dan

My understanding is that the benefits of run/walking are more for longer distances, although we do see some of the benefits in shorter distances, especially for people like me whose cardio fitness is still poor. -the two main benefits proposed are firstly faster times, but maybe more importantly, greater stamina and endurance. These latter benefits are more relevant to longer distances than 7 klms.

7k in 41 mins sounds a really good time, well done you! :)

Sounds like a good run. Sometimes it is best to take an extra day or so to rest. It's how you feel in yourself really. Carry on running..........and posting! Best wishes.
